Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Who cares if she was an activist. Nothing what happened that day merits an execution.

[–] 5too@lemmy.world 34 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The administration is characterizing her as an activist and an agitator, in order to try to retroactively justify her killing.

This story is putting the lie to that statement.

Our problem is the mainstream media that most of America gets their news and information from are all bought by the same donor-class that owns the government, and they are RIGHT NOW having "experts" on the daytime talk shows and news programs telling viewers that Good struck an agent with her car and that "maybe" "some" of the gunshots to her head were unnecessary but that more investigation is needed.

Do not trust that people will use their eyes. People don't see with their eyes. All of our perceptions of the world are filtered through our feelings, and for most people, it feels too inconvenient to believe this horrendous act was what it actually was, because that would mean having to do something, having to sacrifice time and energy to get involved, to seek justice.

Nobody wants to do that anymore. People want to hide inside and scroll.

Fully agree. Even if she wpuld have been an activist fleeing from the place.

Your instinct should not be to murder the person.

In any other countries, there are warning shots fired first, then they shoot at the wheels, then they try to detain the car by using own cars. There is no way the right thing to do is to murder someone in the head as a first response.

Your instinct should not be to murder the person.

It wasn't instinct, it was orders. They are pissed that vehicle blocking is working, and giving targets a longer head start to run. They wanted to send a message, so they were ordered to engineer a situation, then escalate it, and here we are.

As usual, these Dumb Apes fuck up everything they do, and they botched the operation, and sent an entirely different message, which was not received well by America.

So who sent these illegal orders? How far up the chain? I think we all know.

btw, i'm not even sure she was trying to block anyone. in one video, you can see she waves and says "go around!" i think she was just trying to go the other way.

edit - i don't know that that is what happened, just that there's now footage from the agent's phone. can't really use audio at work.

still saw NOTHING justifying murder.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Yeah the right to be an activist is one of our most foundational rights as Americans.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago

incorrect

the murderer who puts himself in harm's way, got out of that way, and then pulled a gun and shot a woman in the face, that deserves execution

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

According to the "expert" they had on Good Morning America, the ICE agent was "struck" by Good's vehicle, but it's actually only the second and third gunshots to this innocent woman's head that were not justified.

I hope you all have a high tolerance for rage-inducing injustice, because this is going to be one of those "Don't Look Up" moments where half the world is told to just LOOK AT THE FUCKING VIDEO and people will ignore you and form movements to NOT look at the video.

I have no perscription or advice how to deal with this. But I do know it's going to get a LOT worse before it starts to get better and we may not all see that day.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Hopefully the only way it gets worse will be a bunch of people getting together to do things like this. Oh darn, apparently mods deleted it. But it was a logical comment that proposed a logical solution.

Fun Fact, if you hit the drop-down by the breadcrumbs under a username you can read a user's moderation history and see what they said that got removed 🤓

While morally I cannot agree with the take, I would LOVE to see people even halfway motivated to take their marches directly to the seats of power. There are only a couple dozen thousand ICE agents in the whole country, we outnumber them by MILLIONS and could literally drag them off the streets, pull off their gear and tie them up and like, stash them in our basements with a bike lock around the neck Breaking Bad style and stop the injustice tomorrow if we all unified. (We feed them sandwiches on plastic plates though, lesson learned.)

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mmm sandwiches you say? You're almost makin' me want to join ice 😋

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I will only feed my agent cheap ass bologna with too much mustard and a single, small wilted lettuce leaf.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Ok nevermind. I don't wanna be an ICEman anymore.
