I still remember the first time I ever questioned capitalism as the only way to do things, and got called a danger to us all who'd get my dad in trouble if I said that stuff to the wrong people.
I was five years old and had asked my mother why money rules people's lives and why adults suck at sharing things.
It was scary at the time, but at least I got a good "no one's born a capitalist" story out of the first time my mom panicked over my politics and the first time my dad called me a pinko.
I'm not sure if I'd have ended up a communist as young as I did if I hadn't been on the receiving end of that particular bout of Dad's screaming, or if I hadn't remembered the details of the experience beyond just the fear and "If I say the wrong thing to either of these two adults that man will lose his temper at me".
I'd probably be a Marxist-Leninist today regardless, but not having remembered that incident in as much detail, probably would have led to more years adrift seeking answers that no one in my circles could satisfactorily provide.
