He is betting "all in" that the Nazi party will remain in power. If they are deposed, he faces life in prison or potentially the death penalty.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 36 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, he doesn't. The democrats will never do anything about this.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago (5 children)

Yes, they will, because their constituents aren't going to sit by and let them squander a second opportunity.

Imagine if we let Hitler off the hook, and he went on to regain power. We did that once already. MAGA is a proven National Security Threat, and their members are Domestic Terrorists. If America is to survive, AND redeem itself on the eyes of its citizens, the world, and history, then MAGA needs to crushed and purged from our government and society.

We cannot allow MAGA to have ANOTHER chance to rise. IF we get another shot, we cannot fail this time, we must act decisively. And if our elected representatives won't do it, then we have to force them to do it.

But it probably won't be that hard. Any new Democrats are going to be elected on their enthusiasm to go after MAGA. That will give the current militant Dems more support, and inspire courage in some of the weaker members who are still around.

There were lots of people who said the Dems wouldn't prosecute the Jan 6 Traitors, and more than 1000 of them ended up sentenced, and MANY went to jail.

Next time, we have to concentrate on the leaders, and then go after the foot soldiers.

The democrats would sooner relinquish power to literal nazis than change a word of their establishment agenda.

USA is not gaining back any respect until you reform your political system. No one is going to come back to the table just because "Dems won" for another 4-8 year cycle before craziness returns. Democrats are the same shoe on a different foot.

[–] discocactus@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Yeah that's obvious. If we don't tamp down the MIC and the PIC this shit will just keep coming. We need to disband the GEO group, cut military funding in half at least, and start to dismantle the DHS that was created under false premises under Bush. It's fucking embarrassing. All the signs have been pointing to this since I was in high school (decades ago) and everyone has been content to just sleepwalk towards it.

That's the point though isn't it? They went after all the small fry they let the big fish go and now he's back in office causing even more chaos than he ever could have in his first term. In fact, I don't think he could have done half as much damage as he has if he had gotten a second term immediately after his first. Instead he and his cohorts had four years to plan what to do once they took the White House back.

The Democrats had grown a backbone and prosecuted that fucker in the four years they had we wouldn't be in this goddamn mess.

Oh, yeah, don't even get me started. Biden came out of the gate with a Covid Vax program and an Economic Stimulus Plan that were wildly successful, and would have put him on the Top 15 among presidents.

But then he appointed the most feckless Republican in existence to be his AG and go after the biggest National Security Threat since the Civil War, and he dithered and slow-walked it for 2 years, allowing Trump to run out the clock. For that unbelievable failure, Biden will be relegated to the Bottom 15 among presidents.

We simply cannot allow that to happen a second time. If the Dems won't act, the people will, and then weakling Dems will go down right along with them.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

It wasn't just Biden. The entire democratic party was complicit in allowing what is happening now.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 20 hours ago

I agree, but Biden should have shown true leadership, and aggressive action against Trump and his henchmen.

When Biden took the oath of office, we ALL had watched the outrageous Insurrection only a few weeks before. The moment he stepped off the podium after taking the oath, Biden would have been well within his Constitutional and Presidential right to order the detainment of Trump and everyone involved in the Insurrection - his chief of staff, his children (who were all on scene), all those who spoke on the stage that day, etc.

That would have shown strength and leadership, and is EXACTLY what a Republican would have done. By not doing it, MAGA took it as cowardice and weakness (which it absolutely was), and amped up their abuse.

The Biden set the tone for his term, and it was weak, cowardly, indecisive, and insipid, and he will be deservedly reviled by history for it.

flips through the Biden era of history of accountability

I'm not so sure about that, that man do I dig your enthusiasm

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 23 hours ago

The Citizens didn't sit still during the Biden era, we were screaming for punishment for them, but the Dem leadership was too cowardly to do anything about it, because as usual, they bought the MAGA line that they were being punished for their POLITICS.

That won't happen a second time. They will act, or we will. Trump and his henchmen WILL face punishment for the CRIMES, not their politics, and our elected representatives will obey their oaths, and do their jobs, or they will face punishment themselves for their negligence and malpractice.

They will know that we aren't playing around.

Much like fascism elsewhere, it's not going away with elections. There was still (just) enough institutional cohesion last time. Even then, it took Mike Pence to, probably for the first time in his life, do the right thing. No matter the "election" result, the current set of muppets is never going to give this power away peacefully. Just imagine VP Couchlover in the place of Mike Pence on that fateful day. We'd probably have gotten a coup right then and there.

I recommend carpet bombing the entire country for a few years, either dropping two nukes on it or granting about a quarter of its territory to neighbouring countries (including ethnically cleansing those areas) as well as splitting the rest in half for a few decades, and finally keeping foreign troops around for the next 70 years and counting. It worked wonders for Japan and Germany, both of which have since become positive additions to the world community. Perhaps we should give that a try for the US? (this is obviously satire; I'm obviously not in favour of mass killings and ethnic cleansing...)
