I regularly deal with an American conservative relative. I sometimes do this kind of thing when I think my actual leftism isn't worth the argument. I also have to deal with neoliberal nut jobs more locally on a daily basis, I do the local variant of this day in and day out. I consider myself successful if I can get the liberals to call a fascist a fascist, even if I can't fix their fundamental misunderstanding of how it happened, how it can happen here, and what to do about it from the position we are in.

Hiding one's power level like this, in most cases, isn't Emmy worthy. It's just daily life for leftists in conservative areas where liberal children of the Cold War are the very best you're going to get for neighbours and family and friends. I can't go around quoting Lenin. But I can say that the US is a fucked up shithole and we must avoid our country going down the same path, and that makes the conservatives mad but it's not as bad as what both the conservatives and the libs would do to a proud commie.
