It's not going to play out like those elite's think though. They see the plutocracy in this same state of cooperation, when it will be at war with itself, and everything will fragment. When it will really become more feudal, like a dystopian futuristic holy roman empire. The federal and state governments will devolve into more racketeering operations. Security services won't go away when money fails, and they will become warlords, or mercenaries, highway robbers, what have you.
But without getting too bogged down in how that part will play out, before we get there, the value of money will fail, borrowing will max out as the party has fixed elections and trust dies in the safety of investments as they let their corrupt buddies run systematic scams. When that happens, and they likely just print money to pay off debts that crashes the value of the currency, the political leadership and their parasitical business partners will start to target the other rich. First the ones that slighted them, opposed them, what have you, and will seize their assets. Soon stealing assets will be the end of accusing them, and they will cannibalize many of their own supporters.
The rich are fools to support a supreme leader, especially now, it's a monster they cannot control for a lot of reasons we won't go into but it's already too late to turn back barring some popular aggressive opposition and we don't have that and appear to still be suppressing it so supreme leader of a kakistocracy, rule of the worst, it is. Indefinitely, depending on who wins the succession fight.
As always, the rich are afraid of losing the license they've extracted from corrupting government and society, and support a monster to crush any popular reform, and have that monster destroy them and the environment that led them to amass such a fortune in the first place.
Plus we have climate change fueling instability, and disasters, hordes of people rushing inland, drone policing to be rolled out, there are a lot of factors at play here. But it won't play out like these technofascist parasites think it will. They can't imagine ending on the wrong side of the supreme leader, but they will, and or have the environment that leads their assets to have value be degraded or destroyed.
