Israeli army takes Gazan doctor at a hospital, tortured him, then brought him a tablet showing a livestream of his home, called in a strike that killed his six-month-pregnant wife, and made him watch until the rescue crew pulled her body from the rubble

It really feels like they're trying to do a kind of "refuge in abhorrence" of their actions or something, where they do some so disgusting, so cruel, that it becomes unbelievable to people with any kind of empathy. That they can just easily dismiss their own actions as "Hamas propaganda" by saying "no one is that evil."

Of course, I don't think this would really work, since the west is constantly accusing their enemies of vague imagined evils, and even your average grillman is already primed to believe this sort of evil exists in the world, because they are asked to imagine it all the time.

It almost feels like it is part of a greater project, since a lot of western propaganda relies on "We may not be perfect, but the enemy is even worse!" having Israel normalise such deplorable acts will just be used to further normalise them at home, and the west will justify it by accusing their geopolitical enemies of still being "worse" than the most heinous and cruel shit people can do. I think they may have already hit their limit with this sort of thing though, Israel is too openly and proudly cruel and sadistic, and the only way someone can believe the western narrative about their enemies now is if they choose to be as hateful and willfully ignorant as possible, and those sorts of people never actually cared about crimes against humanity anyway, they treat it like a team sport where "their team" just needs to "win" by any means.

Yeah I can't really talk about Israel and adjacent issues in any depth with my family because they start to look at me like I've grown a second head before I've even done some basic 101 stuff. By the same turns they believe vague but darkly terrifying things about the barbaric nature of arab people. and they're about as good as 'the good ones' get as far as boomer libs.

We'll never convince them, someone just needs to do what needs to be done.

I'm reminded of something (Noam Chomsky?) once did, where he spoke at (Harvard?) and began listing atrocities (it wasn't true) committed by Arabs against Jewish people in Israel/Palestine and the people were absolutely aghast at what they heard, utterly horrified, and then....revealed that actually it was the other way around, that it was the zionists who'd committed those atrocities against the Palestinian population, and he said he noted with some interest that the room breathed a sigh of relief
