I sometimes imagine a future where, if someone suddenly lost access to LLMs/AI agents, they wouldn't be able to function properly or maybe wouldn't even be able to hold a conversation. The more dramatic side of me imagines them essentially going comatose but that's silly. Hopefully.
They essentially outsourced their writing and speaking ability, and it atrophied (Broca's and Wernicke's area).
Feels like this would be a great Black Mirror episode.
That'd be cool! I feel it could be a news segment not too long after though lol.
See, testing if this happens would be REAL science and far more worthwhike than keeping the LLMs running for a week or so.
All GenAI providers should turn their services off for a week. For science. But they won't.
Might endanger a few people's businesses where they over rely on it.
I already can't hold a conversation, and I've never used an LLM.
I'm pretty sure a couple Star Trek episodes touch on the idea of a civilization becoming slaves to a super intelligent AI not because it conquered them violently, but because they simply eventually became so reliant on it they could no longer keep shit going on their own.
