This lemmitor did the joke completely unironically with Germany's "free press" being able to attack Germany's opponents.

There's also that joke where the Soviet Russian commends the westerner for being superior at propaganda, and the westerner says "But we don't have any propaganda?"

A CIA agent and a KGB agent are having a drink together, the CIA agent says, 'Soviet propaganda is so blatant and obvious, I don't know how it works for you guys.'

The KGB agent says, 'You're right, we're looking to make new propaganda that's more subtle. Like your American propaganda.'

The CIA agent says, 'What propaganda?'
