"not perfect" is what I'd call the best democrats personally. On a good day. Joe Biden is enabling genocide, building Trump's wall, and letting republicans attempt to legislate people like me out of existence -plus he's been shitting the bed on covid-19 since day one. I do NOT think he falls into that category being as he's a self-proclaimed centrist and capitalist and I think he deserves FAR greater scrutiny considering he stole the democratic nomination in 2020 from the massively-more-popular-among-constituents Sanders and moved the goalposts for the party further right, and maybe even the whole country
what historical president would have instead of him during this time? It has to have been an existing president. Not an ideal figure in your head or someone who has never had the job so it can't be proven how bad they would actually have been.

Im saying that comparing to some fictional idealized thing is great but I personally judge them by their peers and this sub little chat started comparing biden to putin. A guy below has a thing about vacating society but I don't see that as an option. So im pretty happy with the best history has given us anyway because i have had worse. Don't get me wrong my go to comparison for our choices is that our political choice is to take it with or without lube.

I can see that. This is what I mean when I tell people republicans used to be different before reagan. they had actual moderates that even used the term progressive in their agendas. Thing is with ike is much of his accomplishments was just that he did not try to tear down what came before but supported it. What do you feel he did that makes him your guy?

Three out of the four that you mentioned there worked to serve the needs of corporations. One of them created the toxic radical right-wing fascist talk radio environment that we've been suffering from for the past 30 years, and another one allowed a scotus pick to be taken and legalized propaganda.
Ok so if any of them served during ikes time by not doing anything they would have done as well as him. Im not so sure he would have done as well in their situations. Who the heck created the right wing radio and how exactly? By being a talking point? And Obama did not allow a scotus pick to be taken. What do you think he should have done to stop it. Nothing like ike did. It seems like you are lionizing ike because he walked into the position when the country was in a much better position. Your 3 of 4 would be 3 post reagan which again the one left was in a bit of a better situation although not as nice as ike being post nixon. I really think you are being to hard on the more recent presidents and to nice to ike.
what pisses me off is someone pawning this off on clinton. This bill passed with veto proofed majority so of course he signed it. No president vetoes a bill when that is the case because it makes them look bad and just wastes everyone's time. Granted that was back when the republicans still compromise some so no one was looking to iritate people they had to work with for no reason.
no he should not have. again it was a time were some compromises could come about and not the cluster of dysfunction we had today. don't get me wrong it was well on its way but there was at least at that time some hope for it. It did not get totally buried until obama.
Yes, he absolutely should have, and maybe someone would have figured out why the the fascists wanted that law. Instead Democrats INCLUDING CLINTON said "gee, conservatism really does need some extra free speech rights!.." Yes, that was their reasoning: defend "free speech" in the "marketplace of ideas" while making sure that any opposing voices would be eliminated. It was as fucking stupid then as it is now.
Your dragging all sorts of things into it (other members of congress). It was a veto proof majority and acting like dick republicans of today would not have helped 30 plus years ago. You seem to have no concept of that time period at all.

this goes back to the democrats not being as bad as the repbulicans. They just have not manipulated the rules in their favor the way the republicans have and retain historical norms longer. Yeah they eventually change do to repbulican dickish behavior but they would not be a better party by beating them to the punch on that.
I'm a anarchist, hero worship is gross asf to me. I'm not gonna pretend giving one person a inane amount of power would ever be a ideal situation. I think at this point I'd rather live in a cave thousands of miles underground filled with traps, poisionous gas and Some Kind Of Horrid Creature than any part of modern day america tbqh
I definately do not hate modern life quite that much, but I get the sentiment.
