The other day I saw on the Trans comm that there's a "Prime Directive" that you should never talk about how someone else might be trans to them because it plants a seed of doubt that transitioning was not their own idea.

So I'm guessing we're only dunking on this dude for being a misogynist, not the actual idea that trying to alter someone else's sexuality is bad?

When you say it like this, yes , it is bad lol. The first thing that comes to my mind mind when I hear that is gay conversion therapy or “corrective” rape. There’s a difference between encouraging someone to step out and “altering” them.

this seems like ridiculous bs. anyone who is trans and needs to transition will likely have their doubts erased as and when they start transitioning and realise it's what they needed all their life.

The doubt is supposed to go away?

I might be misrepresenting it. Maybe it's the idea that you shouldn't be the first to bring it up to someone who's trans?

Generally it's a rather accepted thing to not call eggs actual eggs because for people that genuinely aren't there in their journey yet it might just send them the wrong direction.

it's not good to say "i think you're trans," but i think the far more common (and much more acceptable) thing to say is "that reminds me a lot of how i felt before i realized i was trans," which leaves the possibility open but is not saying "i know you better than you know yourself"
