We supposedly roll in the tanks but they role in the tanks and then genocide...

I seriously don't get why anyone would participate in anything as ghoulish as the NCD communities. I think it's supposed to be self aware, but what does it even mean to be self aware when you still unironically clap like a seal as your country commits genocide? It doesn't square with my perception of liberals as self righteous squares, because the hapless idiots that post on NCD aren't self righteous at all and they understand, to some extent, how evil they are, which is really much closer to how 4chan nazis behave. The only substantial difference they have to 4chan nazis is they're pro-status quo liberals who are still nominally pro-queer liberation (unless the queer people in question live in a bad country). It boggles my mind.

It gives them an out for their more fucked up opinions that would clash with their identities as democratically minded libs

"It was merely a jest" type of deal

[-] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Right, but how do you keep up the bit as you acknowledge that NATO destroyed Iraq, Libya, Somalia, former Yugoslavia, etc etc? Sometimes us 'tankies' joke about sending all the libs to the wall, 100 gorillion dead under gommunism, etc. but we rest easy knowing that those things didn't actually happen. For liberals, they look at real things the institutions they defend actually carried out, and have to deprive themselves of their humanity to say "yeah and we'll do it again biaoqing-copium"

I forget what instance it was but they defedded because Hexbear said landlords should be killed. I went over there after that and one of the first posts I saw was all guillotines for politicians. I was really confused how you can draw the line of fairness when discussing killing the owning class. It was a real pot and kettle moment.

Ancap moment

Can someone explain the non-credible defense thing to me, is it a podcast or what is the deal with the name. Not in the mood today to go trawling through bloodthirsty reddit liberals so thanks in advance for your knowledge.

[-] Eris235@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago

Its an offshoot of the subreddit 'credible defense' for ghouls to talk seriously about military stuff. So the 'non-credible defense' is just because they wanted a 'shitpost' sub to shitpost while being neoliberal ghouls.

Why does dessalines alow that place to exist, again? I get the support but you think they could control some of the more vile elements

[-] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 29 points 6 months ago

Is dessalines an admin for .world?

[-] TheaJo@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

oh, hang on. As a lemmy developer themself I thought they did have some kind of overarching authority? I'm assuming not

[-] riseuppikmin@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

They have no authority when it comes to other instances. The most that could be done is defederating world from ml, but in terms of World's existence the Lemmy project is specifically made so that an admin host is in complete control of their site and that there's no central authority that can dictate what can/can't exist at a site level.

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Yeah, love it or hate it, that's why Hexbear has been able to exist for so long. The only people capable of shutting down this website are people on the admin list, and even then I seriously doubt that all of them have the power needed to shut down the website. Unless interpol literally commit arson, there's no shutting down Hexbear. Same thing goes for the other shitty instances in the fediverse.

Edit: Not calling Hexbear shit. Calling .world shit.

[-] TheaJo@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

Pretty sure the admins support us somewhat. They are directly connected with lemmygrad at least

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

By admins, I mean the Hexbear admin list. Not the lemmy admins. They can defed at worst, but they can't actually shut down Hexbear.

[-] TheaJo@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Ahh. I'm not versed in fediverse stuff that much. Thanks for the explanation comrade

[-] WaterBowlSlime@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 6 months ago

They're the admin of lemmy.ml but I'm pretty sure they have no association with .world. The admins of .ml do moderate the worst libs but aren't as thorough as lemmygrad or hexbear for the sake of being welcoming to a general audience.

[-] imikoy@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago

I don't see dessalines under admin section on the .world homepage. Perhaps you are mistaking it for .ml?
