Dude, the only redeeming thing about being disabled and out of the work force is being able, at any time of day, to grab a drink of whatever I want, and go chill in my back yard.

Coffee, tea, hot chocolate in cooler weather. Ice water, lemonade, or iced tea in warmer weather. There may or may not be a half shot of bourbon involved on very rare occasions (I'm really not much of an alcohol drinker).

Like, we have chickens now, and I'll sometimes go out of a morning with my beverage of choice, my camp chair, and just fuck with the rooster while he crows.

I strongly encourage anyone still working to find time to do what this post describes. Just do it.

The best time to start lifemaxxing is 20 years ago. The second best time to start is today.

Well, seems like it might be hard for you to communicate your order

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 4 points 7 months ago

Lol I see it. Luckily I don't rely on autocorrect to order doughnuts - I can just point and mumble!

I just had this call with my dad. I am a bit behind on chores so I was complaining to him all the things I am doing today, and how great it was when it's done.

And he just casually said; 'don't forget that it's probably going to rain the rest of the week. today is a nice day'.

So now I'm going to sit in the park for a bit before I do my groceries... the dishes sure don't mind if I do them tomorrow instead. Get yourself a parent (or friend, or stranger on the internet) to remind you to enjoy life every now and then! (and remind your own friends when you can

That's a good dad!

My mom was really big on "don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today." My dad was big on "never do today what can wait for tomorrow." I take after my dad :)

I often wonder what we would do all day in a world where noone has to work or get an education.

I think anime is a good proxy what people would like to do if they had the means. Go on an adventure or join some association that takes some activity way too seriously, like competitive cooking or some sport.

I think people would still "work", but do the work they enjoy the most. Like gardening or something.

And overall spend way more time socializing, with much closer bonds than you would have with collegues at work.

It's kind of weird how cold and distant relationships are at work, considering they are the people you spend most time with.

Our society wouldn't be anywhere close as atomized.

Education would still be needed, you see in US southern states what you get with too less.

For the abolition of work. Yes really, abolish work! Not "reform work" but the destruction of work as a separate field of human activity.

To save the world, we're going to have to stop working! — David Graeber

A strange delusion possesses the working classes of the nations where capitalist civilization holds its sway. ...the love of work... Instead of opposing this mental aberration, the priests, the economists, and the moralists have cast a sacred halo over work. — Paul Lafargue

In communist society, where nobody has one exclusive sphere of activity but each can become accomplished in any branch he wishes, society regulates the general production and thus makes it possible for me to do one thing today and another tomorrow, to hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, criticise after dinner, just as I have a mind, without ever becoming hunter, fisherman, herdsman or critic. — Karl Marx

In the glorification of 'work', in the unwearied talk of the 'blessing of work', I see the same covert idea as in the praise of useful impersonal actions: that of fear of everything individual. — Friedrich Nietzsche

If hard work were such a wonderful thing, surely the rich would have kept it all to themselves. — Lane Kirkland

The bottom line is simple: all of us deserve to make the most of our potential as we see fit, to be the masters of our own destinies. Being forced to sell these things away to survive is tragic and humiliating. We don’t have to live like this. ― CrimethInc
