Dollar Tree failed to effectively recall lead-tainted applesauce pouches linked to reports of illness in more than 500 children, leaving the products on some store shelves for two months, the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday.

I can't wait for them to get hit with a small fine that doesn't scale at all with how much they actually make in a year.

Dollar Tree to their Single Underpaid Employee that is forced to run every Dollar Tree store in the country: "hey can you recall those applesauces contaminated with lead tnx bestie <3" Dollar Tree Employee (singular):

Probably because they where understaffed and hadn't put all of it on the shelves.

No but seriously, how are they even still running and not bankrupt already

They're insanely profitable.

Almost as if exploitation is necessary to succeed in today's economy.

They are the very worst kind of economic vulture.

Edit: By which I mean that they take advantage of those who cannot afford transportation to stores with more variety, and are too cash-poor to save by buying in bulk. So they offer high-priced but affordable small portions of often inferior products to people who lack the economic freedom to buy better.

But seriously, that's actually probably why.

Not surprising at all to be honest:

The lead apple doesn't fall far from the Dollar Tree.

If few kids of the poor die... does a bear shit in the woods?

[-] thefartographer@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago

I saw a tree fall in the forest, but it didn't know I was watching so it's not my grandfather's boat anymore

This is horrible, but also not surprising. I bought a candy bar there once that expired 2 years earlier. I'm sure their inventory control is non existent.

Also, I feel like no one in power to do anything cares anymore. Lead poisoning children and giving them debilitating illnesses later in life "meh". Policies are written based on if the policy maker can outlive problem and it does not directly effect them.

This is a company that doesn't respect its customers or workers.
