how much more should we do to ratio libs on lemmy?

No. Downvoting sucks. If you want to ratio libs, upvote everyone else. It amounts to the same. You see it in these dunking threads. The dunks are +80 and the original comment is +5.

Downvoting also gives rise to the old reddit phenomenon “the downvote fairy”, where someone would go into someone’s profile and downvote every comment, or downvote every other comment in a thread.

If you want to ratio someone, do it Twitter style by leaving a reply or screenshotting and posting to the dunk tank. It’s more fun for everyone.

Absolutely agree. I would say we should lobby for doing away with downvotes entirely across the fediverse, since it has had only positive results afaik.

This is a great idea. Feel like we have pretty solid evidence here that getting rid of downvotes entirely is a big improvement.

You're instance is certainly onto something. Since seeing the Hexbear way, I'd be in support of getting rid of down votes on lemmygrad.

Hexbear continues to be the poster's vanguard.

Removing downvotes? What are they going to be doing next!? Adding Pronouns!??!?!? 🤣🤣🤣

100% agree. The ultimate flex is ratio someone in an instance that disabled downvotes.

[–] Freeanotherday@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Heck no. Libs getting ratio'd on their own instances when we don't even have the ability to downbear is fucking hilarious.

I love seeing

"Hmmmm, curious! You have 15 upvotes but I seem to have no downvotes. Nice bot farm you have there!" very-smart

Ignoring the 500 comments from chapos calling them a nerd 500 different ways.

[–] Othello@hexbear.net 27 points 2 years ago

god no. force cowards to explain themselves instead of hiding behind a downvote.

No, we're already massively drowning out and ratio'ing reactionaries

Downbears can be the nuclear option

I would be opposed to bringing it back locally, ~~but I'm wondering if there's some way to enable it only for federated posts. Afaik we're the only instance that does it this way, and while I think it's a good thing, it wouldn't be unreasonable to allow it on posts from communities that allow it.~~

Changed my mind and I think the correct move would be to push for its removal across the lemmyverse, as Nako suggested.

Nah, comment:upvote ratios are infinitely funnier

[–] Maoo@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

Make lemmy less like reddit-logo

[–] trudge@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They get downvoted by lemmygrad people already anyways. You just aren't seeing it!

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The only way I would be keen to bring back downbears would be if after a certain point of downbears, the original comment gets hidden and the only way to see it is to click on a button that's labeled "This comment has been certified poo-poo stinkypants by the Hexbear community"

[–] redtea@lemmygrad.ml 7 points 2 years ago

And there's a lib filter for every one. It's like a captcha but you have to answer a question weighted strongly against liberalism. Then for every down vote you know that a liberal sacrificed their principle of unprincipled compromise with fascists for the sake of a meaningless vote.
