The kiddo is very five: strong opinions, and testing whether lying to or ignoring the parents works. She's starting to understand that there's a reason why we ask her to do certain things in certain ways, but she gets impatient. She had her birthday recently, and I'm more and more excited to see the type of person she'll grow into.

She's also clearly glad to be in kindergarten. She's finally over pre-school, and by the end of summer camps she was ready to learn. She's more social at home and is excited to go to class. That helps take the sting off my unintentional break semester of college.

We had to dip into savings again because we are going 6 weeks without a pay check and shit keeps coming up. Like, I get that that is why you have savings and all but it's sill bullshit and no way of knowing if we are gonna put more in any time in the foreseeable future.

My care took a shit again after fixing it a few weeks ago. They guy warned last time that all the engine coils needed replaced but the one was completely fucked and we decided to just replace that one and ride it out. I was hoping to get a few months more but shit happens. $900 last time(tune up included) and $600 this time for the rest.

Which was funny because it happened literally right after signing the oldest up for scouts since he seemed interested. I went completely outside my element and signed up to to help out. I never had the opportunity as a kid so no clue what all I am in for. Added bonus is that me and the kiddo can spend some bonding time together away from video games and stuff.

Other than that, personally, what started as a component library for my web stuff is turning into a restaurant theme demo instead. I sort of got side-tracked lol. I started working on a prototype of the custom menu component yesterday and now that's gonna end up adding like 3 more days of work. I was gonna add some extra gimmicky stuff like being able to click on the "brunch" feature on the home page and it takes you to the brunch menu but it's not working right with how I have it set up.

My partner had to switch schools due to her current school not having enough students. Thankfully she is locked in with a contract, so they had to place her. If she lost her job for whatever reason, we'd basically end up homeless unless her family helped out, which I am sure they would.

Other than that, still jobless. Shameless promotion but while I am still trying to find a job, I am still actively working on getting this web dev thing off the ground. If anyone needs a website or knows anyone that needs one, I know a guy.

Three-year-old is trying to drop the paci. Very hard. Big feelings. But one of their front teeth is beginning to show trauma so it needs to go. I feel terrible for letting it go on this long and ever worse for the separation anxiety it’s causing them.

One-year-old has decided eating must be on their terms. They also learned “No” can be an answer to every question, which has lead to unintentionally funny situations.

Me “Would you like the last strawberry?”

1yo “No.”

Me “Lol ok I’ll eat it.”

1yo “😦!!!”

(I don’t actually eat the strawberry. I model saying “Yes” to things they want. I’m not a monster.)

I get it, my toddler is big. Yeah he's bigger than your 4 years old and he's younger than 3 but can you maybe realize we hear that constantly and he's going to understand it very soon that people are othering him

I hate that shit. For our family we just don't comment on people's bodies in general.

[-] ShareThatBread@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

What percentile are they? My 6 month old was sitting at 75th for all measurements from birth, but in the past couple of months has shot up to 94th. Is there a certain point where you found other people’s comments started having a judgemental tone?

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

100+% for height and weight.

It's not judgemental perse but it's something they're going to have to deal with and I'm worried they'll start to feel judged

Can understand how your kid might be self conscious in the future about their size if people are commenting on it all the time.

Would team and individual sport help them with confidence in their body, and non sporting hobbies more academic hobbies as well to say they're more than just their body?

We're pretty settled back into our routine now that my wife has been out of her partial hospitalization program. Thankfully the DBT she did there is actually helping and she's realizing her stress tolerance is lower than other people's and letting me help more. The almost 3 year old doesn't listen to her as much as me though and has much more frequent and intense tantrums. I hope that will decrease over time as she learns her mom isn't as volatile.

We tried to do the zoo yesterday. Overall we had a good time but it was a waste of money, barely saw any animals cause the toddler was lollygagging and ended up melting down from being tired. Had to carry her out of there kicking and screaming for a solid 10 minutes, always fun. Think we'll wait till they're both older before we do that again, we've been a few times and it usually goes like that. Plus I'm not the biggest fan of zoos anyway, at least ours does a lot of legit conservation work.

Maybe try the zoo during the morning on a weekday in the fall? School makes for less crowds and the animals then to like the mornings more anyway and cooler weather. Just a thought. Hope it goes better next time. Tantrums are hard.

Thanks! The one good visit we had was on a weekday when school was in session. I was also thinking to get a used wagon to pull the toddler in.
