Love the responses from the influencers. They're all silent about it until Johnson claims that he's a "victim," then there's this sudden rush of "Yeah... yeah - that's it. Me too! I'm a victim too!"

Uh huh...

Hope they get Tucker on this. His shilling is so blatant.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Tucker would say it proudly. And then he would do his lost puppy dog face while asking, "is it wrong to take money in order to give your audience information or is that what they want you to think?"

Just the one?

Kinda curious. What is the illegal part? I'm aware that political actors are required to make certain declarations about money, and I would guess that's a part of this. That being said, there's all kinds of foreign influence on US politics, including financial. So I just wonder what's laws were broken in this case

Probably lying about it and obfuscating it. Also they may have been required to register as a foreign backed entity depending on the circumstances.

[-] tb_@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Ryan McBeth mentioned in his video (13min) them not disclosing receiving funds from a foreign backed entity was, indeed, the legal issue.

[-] SirSamuel@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

I figured it was someone like that.

I seem to remember something similar about not registering as a foreign agent in 2016 & 2020. Funny how that keeps happening around the Trump campaign 🤔

Not sure which law specifically, but if you receive dictator money tonstar spreading around fake news to influence local elections in favor of said dictator, then I'm sure there are entire books full of laws that they broke.

This shit has been going on for decades now, the lies, the obvious shilling (hello fox news) I hope they rot in jail for life for the hurt they caused.

Ehhh, I've seen too many "this violates decorum and tradition but not any actual laws" since 2016 to have confidence in laws and morals intersecting in a meaningful way
