And cats will move through all 4 states in a 60 second period at least once

It's intentionally badly cropped for comedic effect.

I'm missing the headbutts of my kitty so much, I swear she was 10 times more effective than my antidepressants

[-] LordTrychon@startrek.website 16 points 1 day ago

Pets are amazing. Two weeks without my Mr. Kitty and I still hear and see him everywhere. Hope you feel better.

[-] Noodle07@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Been a few years now, I really need a cat

[-] LordTrychon@startrek.website 3 points 1 day ago

Do it! Plenty out there that could use the love, and it sounds like you're ready!

We're not ready. Could be a while for us to seek one out. Our Mr. Kitty adopted us, so of the same happens again, obviously then it's meant to be. Otherwise, it's too big a whole to fill.

It's been over a year since my rabbit passed and I still miss him so much. When I'm sad I wish I could pet and cuddle with him.

[-] LordTrychon@startrek.website 2 points 1 day ago

He sounds amazing.

I'm sorry for your loss.

A year doesn't erase what they mean to us. My wife and I still get upset thinking of our Westie that passed two plus years back.

He was, thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry for your loss as well; I'm sure Westie was well loved 🩷

My cat is permanently the one in the upper left hand corner. We’ve had people come to visit and ask if something is wrong with her only to see her raise her head up, look at them then lay back down and start snoring again.

We joke she is living the good life.

[-] Pringles@lemm.ee 2 points 10 hours ago

How is that a joke? House cats have the cosiest and laziest life of all. I sometimes wish I was one. My wife and I are convinced that Buddhism has reincarnation wrong. Humans are not the highest life forms, cats are.

[-] Zwiebel@feddit.org 13 points 1 day ago

Some cats have also been raised poorly. For example cats who suddenly bite when being pet because their other signs were always ignored.

[-] Blackout@fedia.io 28 points 1 day ago

Reasons cats bite: Anger Hunger Happiness Sleepy Sunny outside The smell of fresh baked bread Tuesday The color blue

[-] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

I have a tortie whose brain short circuits when you're scratching her and so she'll just kind of chomp whatever or whoever is nearby.

[-] GingeyBook@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

Is your cat my cat?

It's the orange in her

[-] wander1236@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

I think it's a tortie thing. We had another tortie years earlier who did the same thing.

[-] GingeyBook@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

Sometimes when we pet ours, she'll switch between licking and biting

It's like she's trying to be sweet and groom us, but just can't resist the temptation for violence

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 11 hours ago

they might be getting overstimulated, a general sign for that is if the tail starts moving faster and faster while petting them.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago

there are different kinds of bites, if it doesn't really hurt then it's probably just an "i love you but stop it." bite or them being playful, if they want to hurt you they'll make it very clear.

[-] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 12 points 1 day ago

They are just angry that a portion of a eldrich diety didn't chose them to be their servant.

[-] notaviking@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

As a dog person I see cats as being apathetic towards their owners. Oh you arrived from work or a 3 month holiday, well I do not really care.

Where my dogs in my mind, which is based entirely on my feelings, will take a bullet for me if they could.

[-] Michal@programming.dev 10 points 1 day ago

Cats can be affectionate. They provide entertainment too. I like it when my cat Somes to sit on my lap when I'm reading a book, or snuggled up i bed when it's cold at night.

I admire dog people for being able to give their pets all the attention they need, go for walks, clean after them. some times I don't have the time to give enough attention to my cat when he wants to play.

My cat used to try to defend me from neighbors I didn’t like. When they got out of their car, she’d get between me and the window and stare, hackles up, softly growling at them until they were inside the building, then she’d go to the door until they were in their apartment.

She also sat purring on my chest 90% of the time I was sick with covid. Whenever I got up for more than twenty minutes, she’d start yowling at me to lie down again and she’d only quiet down when she could curl up on my chest again(it was honestly not ideal to have that extra weight, but she’s only 4kg/9lbs).

She also only gets on my lap if I’m wearing thick pants or have something over me, because she doesn’t like hurting me while kneading, but can’t stop kneading and drooling when she’s in my lap ❤️(she’s insanely smart, it’s actually a problem sometimes).

I grew up with dogs and definitely used to think cats were always aloof, but they’re really different once you get to know them well

[-] TrousersMcPants@lemmy.world 33 points 1 day ago

Nah, cats can be just as dedicated to their owners as dogs. I think they just have different body language that most people aren't really as in tune to as with dogs.

For example, when cats glare at you with a kind of disinterested look, blinking slowly etc., that's actually an expression of trust for cats. I know my cat also gets extremely excited to see me every time I come home and hangs out on the porch with me after work each day.

[-] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 1 day ago

the common saying is that cats are introverts and dogs are extroverts: cats show love by magically always being in the same room as you (including the toilet), dogs show affection by screaming "I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU" repeatedly until you go deaf all the while jumping off the walls because they're just so excited that you still exist.

[-] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago

My cat is not like that at all. He's in the same room as me most of the time. He sleeps on my bed the whole night. Every day, when I come home, he waits at the door and immediately starts headbutting my leg once I sneak one through the door frame. I can't even take a dump without him meowing behind the door, asking to be let in, so we can hang out.

He's also a huge jerk, of course, but a wonderful chap overall.

[-] masterofn001@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 day ago

My cats miss me if I go to the bathroom.

If I'm gone a week they won't leave my side when I get home.

When I wake up, they wait for me at the stairs and we go out for coffee and a smoke.

My big girl sleeps with me all night.

They might not take a bullet for me, but they'd definitely bug me for treats as I bleed out.

[-] TrousersMcPants@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Yup, my cat will sit at the bathroom door and guard me whenever I use the restroom or take a shower and she has her own little cat bed next to my pillow so she can sleep by me at night.

[-] GingeyBook@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yep, mine is always waiting right outside the door.

When I shower she sits in between the liner and the curtain waiting

[-] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

And they’ll eat you once you finish bleeding out, no better treat than fresh meat, no greater love than chompies.
