Alaska resident here...Auroras have been going nuts last few days. My wife and I texted all the neighbors on Monday night. The whole street came out to watch. Usually, we mostly see green and occasionally silver/white. Monday night was was a lot of red/white/green. Reds seem to be the most rare

Looks like you've been SLAMMED

That's so fucking awesome!

I've seen some lights in my lifetime, in MT mostly. Can you see other colors (like the rare red, purple, etc) without a camera?

The picture is pretty close to what we saw by the naked eye.

That squealing sound you will be hearing are my tires as I peal out of my driveway to go watch the northern lights tomorrow

The Aurora forecast maps don't show it going that far south at all.

[-] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Yeah, not even close. I was absolutely ready to drive north tomorrow night to watch it until I checked NOAA. Now I'm going to stay here and get drunk.

The article did a shit job of linking to it, but here's the actual verbatim

Picking California as a reference is so stupid. Like, it's long as hell.

[-] WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago

Even the north most parts of California experiencing auroras is a newsworthy event though!

Mtg, the dems have a geomagnetic storm machine, they will use it to interfere with the election!

Not to be a spoil sport, but it could hit during the day. They think it might arrive as early as this morning.
Unsure hope long these shows go on for, but that’sa consideration.

Ooo... I wanna see Aurora all the way here in the Central Valley. 😯

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I looked at the NOAA aurora forecast and it doesn’t even really go into Oregon. This headline is just wrong

Light pollution kills every bit of universal beauty near me.

What about Sweden?

[-] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I live in a northern swampland and as such, just always get a yellowish glow because of the humidity. I think? We just always have this general glow that kills any fun cosmic opportunities.

What is geoscience?

Geoscience (also called Earth Science) is the study of Earth. Geoscience includes so much more than rocks and volcanoes, it studies the processes that form and shape Earth's surface, the natural resources we use, and how water and ecosystems are interconnected.
