Whomst among us hasn't eaten a few ants as a kid? Suprisingly a little spicy
That kick is from the formic acid!
I wonder what Tarantula Hawks taste like
Probably neither tarantulas nor hawks if I had to guess.
Chapulines (fried crickets) in a taco in Mexico. They were pretty good, but almost every taco at that place was amazing, so maybe it's more about the person making the tacos than the actual filling.
I've had roasted cricket tacos in Mexico before, and they're fantastic. They have a great crunch.
Yes and yes and I would eat more if my wife didn't threaten to leave me if I started farming them.
Edit: accepting tips from anyone who has experience hiding entomophagy from one's spouse.
Which bug tho. What did it taste like?
I've had mealworms and cricket flour. If you toast them meal worms taste like sunflower seeds, cricket flour tastes like whatever you bake it into, there isn't really any noticeable flavor.
Intentionally? No.
Statistically? Probably.
An ant as kid was acidic as expected, as i remember
A girl I was in love with in the 3rd grade ate ants so naturally to be cool so did I.
Crickets are fine. Also just accidentally caught a fly in my throat the other day while cycling. That was less fine.
no because i am a proud american conservative patriot and when joe biden knocked on my door and said "hi i am joe biden i use he/they pronouns. you must eat the bug because i am stupid liberal" i told him "nuh uh" and then went back to reading the bible
not on purpose, but I spend enough time outside that it's inevitable. better they fly in my mouth than my nose though, that's the worst
we stopped at a weird candy store on a road trip a few years ago and found a bunch of bug candy but didn't try any
they also had a lot of bulk candies, from old fashioned stuff to jelly bellys, niche snacks from different parts of the country, and the largest variety of dried vegetation and flesh I've ever seen. it was horrifyingly fascinating.
one time when I was riding my bike a bug flew into my mouth and I swallowed it
I've had some dried I-dunno-what with paprika at a bar and it was nice
I've had fried crickets and chips made from cricket flour so yes several.
That sounds yimyum actually
When I was a kid I had a bearded dragon and I dared my best friend to eat one of his mealworms and with out hesitation he grabbed one and ate it. He said it wasn't bad
When I was really young I was at someone else's house, there were these tiny little bugs that crawled up the wall, and I just, for seemingly no reason other than curiosity, grabbed them and put them in my mouth. They started tasting bad after a while, kinda like charcoal, but for some reason I couldn't stop, I just kept putting the bugs in my mouth.
they were trying to push like cricket sausage & similar stuff where i'm from some years back. it wasn't exactly horrible & i'm all for the concept but sadly the texture was a deal breaker for me. it was like v powdery & dry.
beyond that i was the class clown so naturally i'd devour whatever crawlies i could find around the yard
In first grade we had someone come in and let us try some indigenous foods. I forget all of them except the witchetty grub.
I don't rrecall liking it much. Green ant butts were better.
People keep telling me green ants are yummy
I won't suggest trying any due to since gained ethical positions, but I will say they're sour and tangy in a way I liked as a kid.
Oh I don't plan to eat any, don't worry
I ate a mayfly because I was paid 20 dollars to do it
Did you at least ask the mayfly? Seems rude idk
Had some pan fried crickets that weren't terrible
Ate mopane worms before, they were alright I guess, though I mostly tasted the sauce they were served in. Added a nice crunch though, which could be really nice or really disgusting depending on your perspective.
Crickets and ants, yes. Did I like it? I don't remember. It was a long time ago.
Yep, roasted crickets. They were great, a little nutty.
I ate a stinkbug accidentally. I don't recommend it. Dry and blandly bitter before the stank kicks in
I went to this bug museum and they had bug snacks like lollipops and chips and all. I got nacho cheese flavored maggots and they were tasty. I was a child when I had that though, no clue if I'd do it again as an adult but if the bugs were blended into something and hidden enough, I would
I've always been open to eating a variety of things and even looked into work for Black Soldier Fly breeding. As for [land bugs] I've had: Cricket tacos, ant eggs (like a savory tapioca), products with cricket flour, stinkbugs, tarantula, scorpion, ants, mealworms, maybe silkworm, and probably other stuff.
There were mini-flies in my juice and I didnt want to pick them out so I drank them
Yes, and yeah it wasn’t bad. It’s not something I do regularly, but I’m always open to trying anything once.
A friend brought back spiced fried grasshoppers from Mexico when I was in high school. I recall them being a nice savory flavor but very heavily spiced, I liked them. Also have had fried crickets from a bag, they tasted like popcorn. Wouldn’t eat again cuz I don’t eat animals these days
