MGS5's ideas about linguistic and cultural imperialism were less than half cooked by I think Kojima and his team were on to something.
MGS5 was very rushed and undercooked in many aspects
Gameplay is excellent, storytelling is meh
We needa new tower of babel in order to seperate the inferior Angloids from real languages
we already have that, anglos almost never learn foreign languages

Yeah the reveal of the linguistic imperialism theme was pretty cool and it just makes me sad that the game was so undercooked, it's right in line with the rest of kojima's style of "I just read some good shit and I'm gonna use it"

you don't get the real experience of a text unless you read it in the country it was written in
I did read A Clockwork Orange without knowing there was a glossary, that was fun
That was the intended way to read it apparently, so you pick up the slang naturally through context. The glossary was pushed by the publisher after the fact
I still need to get around to reading planet of the apes in the original French
