i don't think i'm wrong. why else is it a completely separate product from the existing card game, the online version of which literally does not contain monetization?

Yeah, but they have been doing that for 8 years now. Animal crossing pocket camp, Mario kart mobile, FIRE EMBLEM HEROES.

Speaking of the Simpsons, TCG pocket is definitely a Skinner box.

Tbh I'm digging it right now and I've seen a lot worse. The one big reason is that the game doesn't actually pressure you to win games. It's not ranked. You can win 1 game out of 10 with a shitty deck (it's so random that you can win games by pure luck), and it's just going to make the farming slower, when the only thing you farm with wins is limited to 45. The money you get by playing is not related to winning it's related to the other person sending you a "like" that doesn't cost anything.

Yeah I'm doing apologia for my dopamine trademill lmao

it's funny, i open the packs, but since i started playing the full pokemon tcg not long before it came out, i find the battling super dissatisfying. probably for the best. as a game, it's got a lot of the same problems as the earliest days of the tcg, i.e. making too many decks rely on coin flips to deal damage. it's not consistent and feels bad to lose from. it's not nearly so good an app, but i would recommend the non-monetized pokemon tcg live if you like ripping packs and doing casual battles. they recently revamped it to give you more packs for playing games and give you a functioning (if not on-meta) version of most of the meta decks right out of the gate. you also get about the same progression of packs and resources from winning and losing so all around it's just less of a skinner box.

i get it, i got a god pack on this stupid thing lol

I kinda like how dumb it is lmao Like, I don't engage with the game as a confrontation of skill AT ALL. I hated how Heartstone had a lot of cool mechanics but they slapped stupid RNG making things unfair at certain points. Here it's just all RNG, it's totally idiotic and I vibe with that

to each their own then, i'm glad someone can dig it

Yeah, that's why they put so much work into the animations and interactions of pack openings and barely any into the actual gameplay. It's really made to tickle your dopamine receptors specifically when you use the paid part of the app.

what's this app do that's significantly worse than the booster packs they started selling in 1998?

you don't have to move out of your stupor to throw money at it.

Am I the only one that remembers the gambling room in the first Legend of Zelda game?
