@dgerard some time next year: "We've now redefined what '100 billion dollars' means"

Is this the leaked script for Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money?

[-] TinyTimmyTokyo@awful.systems 2 points 8 hours ago

Damn. I thought I was cynical, but nowhere near as cynical as OpenAI is, apparently.

Relevant info is in the first paragraph. Probably more info in the linked article by the group that actually got the leaked docs.

According to leaked documents obtained by The Information, the two companies [Microsoft and OpenAI] came to agree in 2023 that AGI will be achieved once OpenAI has developed an AI system that can generate at least $100 billion in profits.

I mean, at least it's not some stupid vaguery that armchair dullards will argue in circles forever about word meanings and minor technicalities that have nothing to do with AI and everything to do with their own malformed views of reality and humans behavior.

They're called "programmers". They think it makes them sound smart.

[-] trolololol@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Programmers don't have a say in any of these shenanigans. Specially marketing definitions or business buzz words like what they just made here.

[-] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 10 hours ago

well, if they both agreed for it then it'll be easy for courts to decide

[-] gerikson@awful.systems 9 points 15 hours ago

Well there's only $150B to go for OpenAi then

[-] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 10 points 17 hours ago

Wait, does "generate profit" include selling products that don't actually exist yet? Like, has the "AI" generated profit if Sam Altman's unrealistic promises pull in more investments, even if none of the promises are ever delivered?

[-] mountainriver@awful.systems 4 points 11 hours ago

Nah, this is real profits. Real profits turned over to Microsoft:

Microsoft’s current agreement with OpenAI entitles it and other investors to take a slice of profits until they collect $100 billion.

Heads, Microsoft makes tens of billions in profit on their investment. Tails and Microsoft keeps Open AI in a tight embrace until they have sucked everything they want from them.

Would be smart, except they are sucking poison. Let's see how Microsoft's monopoly position can get them out of this jam!

[-] trolololol@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

If anything it will put them in a deeper hole.

It's amazing that this dude has whined his way into riches. As far as I can tell the only thing he does is that stupid face
