The cost range of my hotels usually means that those hangars have loops at the top not hooks, and can't be removed from the closet

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 98 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Even the ones with hoops instead of hooks can be removed (in my experience, anyway). Super awkward otherwise.

I believe I did stay at one property where they weighed cost of the inconvenience as lower than the cost of the theft - completely locked to the rod

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Bring a set of tools and take the hangers and the rod too, just for spite

[–] michael_palmer 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Just one simple trick. Hotel owners hate this.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Usually in a place that classy it's so you can't hang yourself.

Keep a couple clothespins/binder clips in your bag?

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I don't always carry my BDSM kit with me though. Sometimes a business trip is only a business trip.

I've also always thought that was a cost/theft issue, but I wonder if its also to prevent people from trying to use the hook-type hangers from hanging things from fire suppression sprinkler heads.

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago

Good point. I recently stayed somewhere with a bolted sign by the sprinkler heads that said not to hang anything on them, lol. Makes me think it happens...a lot.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Just bring a pair of side cutters with you. Snip snip and you’re good to go!

[–] dufkm@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

I'd never go to a hotel without my leatherman with me.

Also at hotels while traveling .... ask for a better room or any upgrades. Worst thing anyone will say is no.

But if you're lucky to run into a manager in a good mood or even the owner, they'll give you something just for asking.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 32 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I don’t think my motel 6 has a better room than 2 full size beds and free HBO

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

They might at least not put you next to the hourly rentals

[–] neatobuilds@lemmy.today 6 points 3 weeks ago

But then you have a longer walk

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 weeks ago

And miss out on the free entertainment?

I had a guy try to stab me because I asked. I'd categorize that as worse than no.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 44 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

If that happened to me at a hotel .... I'd give up my prebooked room and leave, no matter the cost ... definitely not a hotel I'd want to stay in.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 5 points 3 weeks ago

[–] IndiBrony@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah yes, I also remember staying in Glasgow once.

I already paid $5 to turn the cable on.

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 32 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Just overlap the curtains?

[–] isolatedscotch@discuss.tchncs.de 71 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

many hotels cheap out and have crappy curtains that are designed in such a way that it can't be overlapped

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Blast! Cut off at the pass.

I’m traveling right now and will do this when I get back to my hotel.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 23 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] Kalothar@lemmy.ca 18 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Clamped it around his neck, seen this tragedy a dozen times

Lets just sprinkle some crack on him and get out of here

I am not really sure what's going on in this picture

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 53 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

They used a hanger to keep closed those useless curtains that are in a lot of hotels.

I travel with a couple of binder clips for exactly this reason. I never thought of using a hanger with clips though!

The best hotel room hack I know lets you unlock the AC so you can get some actual cool air.

Done this many times. It helps so much when you don't need to be up at the crack of dawn.

[–] BatrickPateman@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Yo, isn't that from Amazon's Reacher? S1E?

[–] bartvbl@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Great tip! My biggest issue is usually that the curtains themselves barely block any light. Light leaking between them tends to be a secondary issue.
