1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

...and other ways to underestimate a dishwasher.

[–] Stegget@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (4 children)

This is the video that convinced me to get the cheap powder detergent.

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

and also to run the hot water tap before starting so that it has hot water from the start.

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago

If you have a disposal, run that while you're heating the water too. A full/clogged disposal will cause backups or slow drainage which puts more strain on the pump.

[–] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That's not needed, the first cycle just rinses it.

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

It's better to rinse it with hot water. The rinse cycle uses so little water that hot water doesn't make it to the dishwasher if you didn't use any from the sink.

We tried the cheap powder detergent based on the video and had terrible results. Did it just like he says, dishes kept getting residue on them. Tried adding citric acid, a little better but still not clean.

Went back to the pods of liquid stuff. Dishes are clean again, glass shiny, all is well.

[–] Fallofturkey@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Kinda same here. We tried the powder with terrible results and went back to liquid (never tried the pods).

Powder detergent is the way. When I open up the dishwasher at the end of the cycle and find clean dishes and no residual foam at the bottom of the machine I know that I used just the right dose.

The powder seems to oxidize aluminum more than the gel, an unpleasant discovery.

[–] Gold_E_Lox@lemmy.world 16 points 3 months ago (4 children)

wait, theres a middle rack??

[–] Psythik@lemm.ee 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

In most dishwashers the "middle rack" is just the top rack. You would know if you had a dishwasher with 3 racks. And to be fair, the third rack tends to not have a lot of headroom when you do have one. Can only fit silverware and small utensils.

[–] higgsboson@dubvee.org 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

My middle rack sits out in the garage because it felt dumb.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

...you mean your top rack, right? Not the rack your glasses and large tools/utensils go on.

[–] DaCrazyJamez@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

[–] kusivittula@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

[–] DaCrazyJamez@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

This did not go well. There are no more steps.

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

The top end Asko model has four racks...

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 12 points 3 months ago

sometimes the middle and/or top can be height adjusted easily. Allows for taller things on that shelf at cost to shelf below.
