Why would a kids birthday party be in a soap shop? Do they now do hands on, where you can make soap or something like that?

Pretty much, yeah.
Never been to one, but know people that have. Tends to be for younger teenagers at the lower end, though some little kids are into bathtime bubbles and such.
It's stuff that's bubbly and smells good. Even fairly young kids, say kindergarten age, tend to be okay with the end result, and the process can be fun-ish. But I can't imagine trying to plan one for that age range. No way are you going to have a dozen kids that are all into the idea, and attention spans are lower then as well.
But tweens and teens? Yeah, you get a small friend group together that enjoys the froufrou smells and such, it supposedly works well. It's not just making soap, there's snacks and drinks and such. Don't know that it would be a great birthday party, but what do I know?
