I've done that. I've made such boneheaded comments that I've left them up and downvoted myself out of not just shame, but a sense of duty.

post nut clarity, comment version

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 39 points 20 hours ago

“I’m such a dumbass. I can’t believe I posted that shit. I totally deserve a downvote.”

[–] LostXOR@fedia.io 18 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Imagine having a default vote on your posts.

This comment was brought to you by the mbin gang.

Imagine bragging about lacking a feature.

[–] LostXOR@fedia.io 6 points 14 hours ago

It's not exactly an important or useful feature.

1-3 scale of self destructive narcissism

What's more narcissistic than declaring your past self inferior

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Declaring your future self inferior?

[–] spankinspinach@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I will be so bad at this I'm not going to have seen it coming...

[–] JayDee 4 points 17 hours ago

I'll do you one better: lottery. You set it up where it's random whether it's upvoted, downvoted, or neither. You don't know till you post.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

One thing I liked about Kbin was that I didn’t upvote my own post. All my votes were earned.

[–] Squorlple@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago (4 children)

Does alternating between upvoting and downvoting one’s own post cause it to artificially rise in either Hot or Active?

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

You could try downvoting it, waiting for some pity upvotes and then upvoting it again to give it a head start

[–] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 0 points 16 hours ago

Yep say something controversial but broadly acceptable, downvote yourself to look attacked, then come back in a few minutes and upvote your command and you're now the top child comment under a post. Stealthy but effective.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 5 points 19 hours ago

Probably not as the action was performed by the same actor.

[–] C8r9VwDUTeY3ZufQRYvq@sopuli.xyz 4 points 19 hours ago

Hopefully not

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 2 points 17 hours ago

Maybe in "Controversial"
