“but in a gig style setup”

“I will only bring them back if we can do it in a way that treats them with as little dignity as possible”

The entire country and maybe world will be gig workers by 2060. They’ve finally figured out the cheat code. You “get to be your own boss”, they get to shed a ton of liability, pay you absolutely no benefits whatsoever, stop paying for workers comp, etc

Ah fuck, our universe is heading towards Elysium-esque. Never Fifth Element, never Star Trek, closer to Atlas Shrugged and Real Steel, but I really hoped it wouldn't be this bleak

The fifth element future was pretty bleak was it not? Or am I not remembering the movie correctly? It seemed like a pretty authoritarian universe to me

You don't like automated traffic violation tickets? Or a corporate head that operates like a cartoon villain while the government acts like they can't do anything until the very end?

The Fifth Element depicted a straight up utopia where gift wrapped Milla Jovoviches fall from the sky. I do not need any more than that.

Hopefully we then still have the German laws against Scheinselbständigkeit (mock self employment). That's one of the reasons why Uber is just another taxi company here.

How exactly are they going to gigify fucking customer service?! Capitalism is out of ideas yall. All that "competition and innovation" has boiled away leaving only the scum.

Well, that part isn't new - call centers with low or no benefits have been a thing for decades.

AI just gave the guy (and others, I'm sure a wave is coming) a convenient excuse to renegotiate the basic employment social contract - to switch employees to "gig" workers without having to pay for pesky things like health insurance and retirement.

I get the primis and how they'll implement it. But essentially, anyone with a phone can be a customer representative. Kinda like anyone with a phone can deliver for Uber. So you'll need help with your loaned money, and the person you get to help you with customer service just signed up?! Ya this is going to backfire spectacularly.

The thing is, no rational person could have seen this coming. /s

Poob would like to hire back all it's human workers. Unfortunately, Poob fired them in the literal sense. Poob cannot employ ashes and rendered fat.

Yet.

Fire full time employee, cited AI. Hire them back as gig worker, contractor.

Profit ???!!!??
