I'm only familiar with DXM (is an anaesthetic/NMDA antagonist and it causes severe pee retention), does it mean that or the opposite and you're literally leaking?

*Disclaimer: Everything here is based on the pure, pharmacological, Ketamine used in medicine, not the shit you buy somewhere. * Ketamine, as long as it's pure, does not damage the kidneys per se. But it wreaks havoc on the urinary system which then can lead to kidney damage.

Ketamine does cause chronic Zystitis(think of a chronic, but often not as massively painful, UTI) and damages to the ureter. This then, in the long run, causes Hydronephrosis by dilating the ureter - which then has the potential to cause kidney damage due to a backup of urine.

Additionally Ketamine's common side effect is an increase in blood pressure that can absolutely cause kidney damage as well.

It shall be noted that this usually only occurs after using ketamine longer than one month.

I’m only familiar with reports of bladder damage in very heavy users, presumably months of continuous use. I want to say damage to the cells lining the bladder, with their bladders having to be removed.

Again this is from memory; one of the 6 individuals had a structural anomaly that prevented urine from contacting a portion of the bladder, and these cells were undamaged.

As your kidneys are responsible for removing the K from your bloodstream it’s reasonable to assume some potential for similar harm.

A few grams a year is unlikely to cause a problem. Always test everything you get. 50 fentanyl test strips cost $14 bucks… about the same for a single reagent test kit.

I think there may be something published in medical journals about this, OP could try Google Scholar for instance

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That would be my recommendation too… just to lazy to find the original source DOI.

I dont use anything like that much less regularly but I keep hearing it about F. Musk

[–] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 1 day ago

Giving Musk a feminine name insults him because you're sexist, I guess.

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah. It’s not hard to develop a tolerance to the stuff. If he was trying to using it daily for 4+ months I can’t imagine how much he was taking by the end to get the same effect.

I’m not sure what bladder problems he was having, but at 50… it might not be the K ;-)

There’s a designer version called deschloroketimine that’s better for that, but I haven’t had any luck sourcing it lately. Maybe the Elon can go to South America and build us a clandestine laboratory 🤣

He doesnt seem super savvy about drugs in that way. That would be my first item on the agenda if I was so inclined to pursue dissociative anaesthetics or whatever substance. Find out the specific issues associated with the drug and investigate superior alternatives and how to source good shit

These folks are all running from something, I can smell it. Even if he was completely clean, I don't believe that kind of wealth/profile is fundamentally robust nor is is sustainable or desireable in any way. Its like meth in its effect on your brain and everyone you curate to be allowed around you

[–] sramder@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

LOL, he’s got people for stuff like that 🤣 (Finding and buying the drugs)

Everyone contemplating taking anything that didn’t come sealed from a reputable pharmaceutical company should do a metric-fuckton of research… do their best to understand what is happening, what the risks are, take the smallest dose they can and make sure it doesn’t burn a hole in their tongues ;-)

IMHO, the whole thing is more dangerous then it used to be because fentanyl. It’s hard to understand what a milligram is until you have tried to weigh one.

If you’re lucky enough to live in Europe, for the love of god take full advantage of dancesafe.whatever, a $25 GCMS test is a bargain! If you can’t afford to sacrifice one dose your playing Russian roulette!

A full reagent test kit and fentanyl test strips are the minimum, again IMHO.

Sorry if that all got a bit preachy… I have not even checked the sidebar here to see if best practices/harm reduction principles have made it over from Reddit.

I’m not going to crack on Musk when John Stewart just did such a great job… but I’ll take one more crack at scaring the new kids:

The risk from excessive ketamine use is the opposite of what they depicted in the show (Daily Show, June 2nd, 2025). It’s excessive urinary retention. Fellas, they will have to put a catheter up your pee-pee-hole and let the juice out. Ladies, I assume it’s the same.

At the time I read that U.K. study they were removing people’s bladders because of the cancer risk. I refuse to contemplate the implications 😱

Everyone go find something to hug, even if it’s just a tree. I’m going to take a nap with 3 cats.

The issue is ppl do a lot and its sharp cuts up the insides is what ive heard, tolerance builds fast because ppl do wayyyy too much their first couple times, you can do the tiniest bump in the world, barely visible and still see stuff, ppl use it like coke when one bag the same weight should last you 10 times longer at least

[–] felixwhynot@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wdym “cuts up the insides” like nasals? OP talking about bladder/kidney issues IIRC

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

it goes down the nose and cuts up the insides, gets pissed out https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1879522615004133

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

we had a tiny ass scoop for measuring looked like a stick with a tiny tip that was the scoop, idr what size it was, insane to me how much ppl do and just go full need to be taken care of mode everytime they do it til their tolerance is so high they need a gram a night, it never even felt addictive compared to other stuff and had a great longterm afterglow which was why that confused me. (like 3months of feeling less anxious and more confident, just generally emotionally stable lol)

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

My friends and I would do like 1 gram together over a month lol, but we also drank on it, like a line of k would be 1/10th size of a coke line and 3 of those would be a khole so wed avoid that
