They're not actually looking for colouring books, it's a language learning tool that breaks the kanji down with kana shown above them to aid in learning unfamiliar kanji, like this.

Having said that, asking for hentai specifically is goofy as shit. Just be normal-ish and ask for manga that isn't for little kids. I'd understand if they wanted to read Mob Psycho 100 with furigana, rather than Doraemon.

Honestly it's weird that several of the comments in this thread seem to genuinely think OOP is talking about coloring books, just because of the joke in the title.

But yeah, furigana (also called rubi or yomigama) are basically just glosses, usually indicating how a character is supposed to be pronounced, but sometimes used for other purposes like wordplay or explaining technical terms. They were pretty widespread in Japanese before the postwar writing reforms in all sorts of media, which is somewhat amusing because that's also when furigana were most "useless" due to all the centuries of historical spelling.

In any case, nowadays furigana are most widespread in media for young people and language learners, and outside of that context are mainly used for, like, proper nouns and particularly rare words. Which isn't to say that there's no furigana'd content for L1 adults at all, just that it's rarer. You can write furigana on Lemmy too: {Glossed text|Gloss} = {Glossed text|Gloss}. Use that markdown for Kanji, use it to gloss sentences from one language to another, use it for non-manual features in sign language glosses, use it to include brief translation notes, use it for whatever.

You aren't a real language learner until you're cumming to your target language, which is why I can never call myself a real Esperantist or Norwegian Sign Language learner.

I always prioritize learning the most useful phrases, such as "big brother, my hips are moving on their own"

Untapped market idea: hentai coloring book with japanese to english text for language learning for adults.

Add a cum-palette pencils set to the bundle

Honestly porn is basically the "you might not like it but this is what peak performance looks like" of language learning, if you use various language learning gurus' standards for what makes for good comprehensible input for immersion.

Although explicitly asking for hentai to assist you in language learning is a bit bizarre, he has the right mindset. No one is going to get proficient by reading hentai alone but if you have to read porn, might as well do it in your TL. Bonus points if he finds one that's 80% "story" 20% actual porn.

Actually, unironically a decent idea. Used to translate, do not underestimate pay pigs.

Aren't most mangas in black and white? They're already coloring books if you want them to be.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

Just buy a black and white doujinshi and some crayons bro

Well, it's not porn, but there's something adjacent in the adult colouring book market. Look for Comfy Friends volumes 3 and 4.

They sell paper copies on (sadly) amazon which I will admit to buying. The paper copies have a lot more than the downloadable PDF versions which are basically teasers.
