Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

https://archive.is/rNI71

Roughly 500 Marines based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California have been mobilized to respond to the protests in Los Angeles, according to three people familiar with the matter, and will join the thousands of National Guard troops that were activated by President Donald Trump over the weekend without the consent of California’s governor or LA’s mayor.

The deployment of the full Marine battalion marks a significant escalation in Trump’s use of the military as a show of force against protesters, but it is still unclear what their task will be once in LA, the sources said. Like the National Guard troops, they are prohibited from conducting law enforcement activity like making arrests unless Trump invokes the Insurrection Act.

One of the people familiar with the Marine mobilization said they will be augmenting the Guard presence on the ground in LA. Over 2,000 members of the California National Guard have been activated by the president, but only about 300 have been deployed to the streets of LA so far. Those initial 300 people were on a routine National Guard drill weekend when they were mobilized, which is why they were able to arrive so quickly, the person familiar said; it can take up to 72 hours for other Guardsmen to be mobilized. The Marines are expected to bolster some of the Guard members who have been deployed to LA in the last two days, this person said.

While their tasks have not been specified publicly, they could include assignments like crowd control or establishing perimeter security. Lawyers within the Defense Department are also still finalizing language around the use of force guidelines for the troops being mobilized, but the person familiar said it will likely mirror the military’s standing rules of the use of force.

What percentage of liberals are going to blame this on the protestors?

Already seen a CNN commentator say that any protestor carrying a Palestinian flag is an outside agitator.

Recently on Bluesky (the last ~12 hours or so) - I started to see comments like "The people protesting are not the ones rioting." An example is this post by Alt National Park Service.

Let this sink in. Even the Los Angeles Police Chief, Jim McDonnell, made it clear: the people protesting immigration raids were not the ones causing violence. During a Sunday evening press conference, McDonnell condemned the violence as “disgusting”

In their(?) bio the word "team" is used. So - I'll use "they"

The official "Resistance" team of U.S. National Park Service.

They are the 11th biggest account on Bluesky. They recently made a "88" post and claimed it was a mistake due to ignorance - https://hexbear.net/post/5175526

Their bio has a link to their site and - of course - they sell merch.

I'd love to see somebody wearing their t-shirts in person. I'd walk up to them smiling

"Do you know who made your shirt?"

"Why yes I do. The Alt National Park Service! I bought the shirt for myself."

"They might be Nazis."

I mean, it's gonna suck for the protesters but this is just the sort of over-escalation we want to provoke. Outside of ICE being kicked out it's the best outcome.

Real 1917 hours but we are so not ready.

I'm afraid the post 2020 crisis is more of a 1905 scenario. But there are worse places to be than 1905

This doesn't even make tactical sense. Marines aren't trained for riot control, they're trained for rapid seizure of territory. If anything it'd be smarter to send regular Army Infantry in.

[–] HamManBad@hexbear.net 18 points 6 days ago

It makes sense if you're deliberately escalating the situation. Trump wants chaos

Weren’t the national guard created explicitly so they could be like “well, technically we’re not sending in the military

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago

Not really, no. They were formed out of the first military organizations in the US that were local militias. The original purpose of the National Guard was so British colonists could kill Native Americans and French colonists. Attacks by these militias is one of the causes of the French-Indian War.

Around 1900, the Guard was reorganized into a reserve army for the rest of the US military. A lot of National Guard formed the bulk of the Confederate army during the Civil War. They were consistently used during westward expansion to protect settlers doing cracker shit and expelling Native Americans.

My 30 seconds of googling lead me to this

National Guard (United States)

It [was] officially created under Congress's Article I, Section 8 enumerated power to "raise and support Armies".

I changed the verb tense. For some reason it reads "It is officially created..." and that makes my eye twitch. Still - I'm very pleased how excellently google and Wikipedia worked in this case. I thought I'd have to spend ~5+ minutes of very annoyed googling and searching. Google was like the google of yore.

What’s the series of events that results in the LAPD and USMC just brutalizing each other?

Assumption: Trump intentionally has the Marines put into derelict buildings without running water or electricity. There no working toilets and the only stuff there is garbage. On Truth Social Trump says "I put them in SPECIAL barracks because they like it. They are tough, tough men. Very, very strong." The post goes viral on LAPD Hog Twitter.

A few days later a large number of LAPD cops taunts a much larger number of stinky, smelly very annoyed Marines with chants of "Tough Tough Men! Very Very Strong! L-A-P-D! We Got Toilet Paper!.... And You Don't Got Shit!" Chaos soon breaks out.

There has to be a part where libs make up a nickname for trump like "Donnie no beds" and try to get it to stick

Or donfuton.

But maybe not. It makes me think of a vibrating "American bed" in a skivvy Japanese love hotel.
