LA residents just days away from creating a nuclear warhead.

Didn't a court already rule he couldn't do this?

[–] steal_your_face@lemmy.ml 1 points 19 hours ago

a federal court said that trump couldnt do this with the national guard. Appeals court reversed the ruling and is in the process of making their own ruling. Last I checked it seems like the appeals court will allow trump to do this. These rulings were only for the national guard, though, not any other branch of the military.

That only means something if someone is going to enforce it. When someone has a monopoly on violence. How do you enforce that against the person with the Monopoly?

The legislature and the Judiciary have effectively bowed down to Emperor Trump. Giving up any power they may have had . While many of them may not particularly like him. They find him more useful to their own ends. And nothing is going to change until their perception changes. Maybe the coming war on Iran will do that. Maybe not. The echo chamber is pretty thick now. And I am sure the majority of people will only hear positive news about it.

I am not a lawyer, so not sure if I understand everything that is going on.

It was appealed. The appeals court put a temporary stay on the order that would return control to the governor. The appeals court hasn't ruled yet, as far as I know. They may be waiting because there is another hearing Friday with the original Judge.

[–] Eldritch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Here are a couple of lawyers that have more or less implied that.

I still don't think that offers any hope or possible remedy.

Law and justice requires force to have an effect. When the monopoly of force decides on a thing there is no one to oppose it.

That being said there are a lot of people and branches that are difficult to unify so you would expect the risk to be rather low.

They’re going to take their fucking time so that eventually if any action is taken against Trump it’ll be months/years down the road where there will be no actual consequences.

Dude is 79 and most of his atoms have come from big macs; every single morning is a dice roll that he didn't die in his sleep. This fucker is never going to see justice, and all of the spineless justices and prosecutors that were shit scared to punch up will finally be able to breathe easy knowing they did absolutely nothing to protect the rule of law when they had the chance.

Justice is unfortunately slow. Due diligence and all definitely takes time. And if everyone were acting in good faith that wouldn't be a problem. I don't think the judges are going to drag their feet anymore here than they would anywhere else. Though I definitely think we should already be Beyond this.

Like the other guy said, seems pretty damn fast when it wants to be. They didn't wait two years to start the trial against Mangione.

[–] undefined@lemmy.hogru.ch 2 points 20 hours ago

Justice is unfortunately slow.

I think that’s true only to a certain degree. It sure seems fast when it wants to be.

You know how they told you to come to a complete stop at stop sings? Same thing.

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This means nothing on the streets. The NG’s aren’t engaging with the public. It’s all optics and headlines.

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 day ago

And a lot of standing around doing nothing while burning taxpayer dollars

[–] venusaur@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Fully suited and booted in Los Angeles Summer? We’ll see how long they last.

Usually it's not until after they leave the service that vets end up homeless. I wonder if they'll at least find enough warehouses for them to sleep on the floor of, or if they're just gonna start tossing them down alleys or something.

[–] AngrySquirrel@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, I hear skid row is near the protest area...

Although I wouldn't be surprised at this point if they decided to start violating the 3rd Amendment; it's not like they care about following The Constitution.

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

What constitution?

That thing became null and void as soon as Trump usurped the office despite being disqualified by the plain reading of the text of the 14th amendment.

[–] MisterOwl@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

2,000 more violations of posse comitatus.

Don't forget to pack your brown shirts for the deployment, you fucking traitors.

[–] _cryptagion@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are they gonna have enough concrete floors for them all to sleep on?

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Hopefully not. No rest for the wicked.
