Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I've had the same bottle of shampoo since 2016. It's outlasted my hair.

That could have been part of the problem, yeah

Auto ship from Chewy solved this for me heheh

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 6 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

All her food comes from chewy and I've tried this.

You know we should try auto order.

Orders food

Comes in just fine, But we've misguessed on the reorder date.

We'll just single order a second bag so that we've got one in stock. It's kind of ridiculous to have 68 lb of dog food around but it won't go bad that soon.

Single bag comes in, 3 days later reorder bag comes in...

Dog: btw I hate this dog food and I'm not eating it anymore

O.O

Add some crumbles in: nope

Add some wet food in: nope

Gravy, chicken, start doing food theater.

Dog: The dry food is now poison

In the middle of trying to solve this we get another reorder.

Chewy lets us cancel and donate that bag to the local animal shelter.

We change over from a duck version to a salmon version, dogs been eating it fine now for 2 years.

I love chewy to death but between our own incompetence and our dogs fickle eating habits...

I've started baking chicken thighs from Costco. $1.79 a pound, They are easy to debone and a $20 package fills four tall deli containers. The dry food is now a condiment for teeth health. And if it runs out she can Make it just fine on meat for a couple of days.

Haha, fair enough, I never had a picky eater yet!

"These shower floor tiles seem slippery"

[–] eezeebee@lemmy.ca 214 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've seen a lot of shower thoughts, but this thought is the showerest

[–] JargonWagon@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

I was thinking the same thing, but with the word *showeriest

[–] idunnololz@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What about "welp, time to poop"?

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 5 points 20 hours ago
[–] cattywampas@midwest.social 177 points 1 day ago (5 children)

And then forget in 5 minutes cause I was in the shower.

[–] blackluster117@sh.itjust.works 102 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Then remember immediately the next time you get in the shower. Vicious cycle.

Or just rinse, save some shampoo for tomorrow.

[–] And009@lemmynsfw.com 6 points 1 day ago

Diluted shampoo

[–] valkyre09@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I do this with tooth paste.

I’ve started buying two tubes at a time because I can’t be trusted

[–] xorollo@leminal.space 11 points 1 day ago

My husband buys the toothpaste. When mine runs out I take his so that he will always know if the closet stock is empty. If I took one from the closet, and it was the last one then we might be left without. When we get low, it's a game where we are constantly stealing the tube back and forth . I like to think this game helps him remember to get some more.

This is why I set the bottle in the bathroom sink after having this thought. Its hard to ignore something so out of place and in the way

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

adhd life hack: do weird shit so you can trust you'll remember it and become free to forget things

Get out of my head!

For real though, ADHD life is about being a hacker in the least sexy ways possible

Then you put the extra bottle you bought away, and realize you really should have checked the cabinet, and now you have 3.

[–] kemsat@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (8 children)

Thank you for making laugh in the middle of my life loathing rant 😂

This, but every evening a week straight until the bottle is actually empty and then I walk around with greasy hair until I get weird looks from people at the mall, at which point I remember to buy it.

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

It is either that or you go buy shampoo, then put it somewhere in the house where you forget all about it and go buy another and forget all about that one too and then you run out of shampoo and are like "oh fuck, I need to buy shampoo" and you manage to remember and come home with a third bottle and then the others start popping up in weird places over the following days.

I am at the end of one such misadventure. I am almost finished with bottle number two and bottle number three disappeared from the kitchen for weeks and reappeared recently in my couch and I put it in the bedroom so I am reminded of it's existence everyday now. Eventually it will find its way to the bathroom.

Everytime I'm at the store and I pass the shampoo aisle I have to remind myself that Mr couch shampoo is still very much full and very much on its way to the bathroom.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

why not put them all together next to each other, you know, in the bathroom, where you bathe?

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 3 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

That would make sense, wouldn't it?

That just isn't how my brain works. If I put a thing down, unless I am super hyped about it or it is urgent, I will forget about it. If I become aware of it again and it still isn't urgent, I might pick it up with the intention to put it in the proper place but get distracted and put it in a new temporary place because something else more urgent is going on. I will occasionally remember that it is in a specific place and I'll be like "oh I should move it to the right place/fix it/tidy up/other" and I will forget about it again because something else is happening or I am at work or somewhere, where I can't do anything about it right now.

My spouse and I have some strong suspicions that I have undiagnosed ADHD, but in the milder end. It is what it is. All you can do is do the best you can and try and find ways to improve. The problem is that no matter how much I work on these things, I will never get truly better. I can get better in one area and then crash and burn in another so I kinda pick which area I want to work on and accept that I will be a train wreck in another.

[–] slampisko@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Hey, weird suggestion, but maybe look into giftedness as a cause instead of ADHD.

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Genuine question: what makes you think I should look into that instead of ADHD?

[–] slampisko@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I just want to bring up the option, because my struggles are similar to yours. Giftedness is something I recently found out I have probably been blessed with either along with, or instead of ADHD (which I have a diagnosis for).

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I hope that revelation will help you understand yourself better, my friend! Give you some peace of mind 🤗 is it something you want to get tested for or are you satisfied with the suspicion alone? For me, I kinda felt like it was enough to have the ADHD suspicion. Helped me overcome a lot of self hatred and relax a bit more.

I dunno if I would call myself gifted. I'm pretty stupid, tbh, and you kinda have to have a brilliant mind to be gifted, from what I can tell.

[–] slampisko@lemmy.world 1 points 40 minutes ago

The ADHD suspicion and later diagnosis did the same for me, actually! I even have meds which do help me fit into society better. But something always felt off. I am going to learn more about giftedness, but the shift in mindset is already huge, similar to the former shift. Thank you for your kind words, I wish you good luck on your own journey -- and don't be so harsh on yourself ❤️

[–] Nangijala@feddit.dk 3 points 17 hours ago

Thank you thank you x) used to get really mad at myself for being an idiot with most thing but now I'm just kinda owning it. My spouse is super chill with my weirdness, so at least nobody is affected negatively by it. He mostly laughs when he discovers my newest dumb thing. Most recently he discovered where the plastic bag clippies had disappeared to.

These things!

I had accidentally and over time collected all of them in one corner of the apartment like a squirrel stashing nuts for winter. He thought it was very funny.

[–] GeekyOnion@lemmy.world 40 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This, right here, is the highest quality "Shower Thought" I've ever encountered. You win!

Took me about 5 seconds to get this.

So....not a LONG time, but I'm still ashamed it wasn't instant.

[–] ieatpwns@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

This is why I subscribe
