Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Xellennial here. Please overlook us. Being “the middle child of history” (remember that quote?) does us just fine.

Nothing to see here. Go bother gen Z.

I'm not even supposed to be here today!

The only thing I get irked by is gen z mistaking us for boomers. Despite general world view etc. being so obviously different.

You're right. Our grandparents where actually kinda cool when they where younger pushing free love, good drugs, and protesting against the war in Vietnam.

Say what you will, but that's the generation that got most of the civil rights movements really in gear. You dont get a Kent State without pissing off the powers that be. They did some cool shit, hell they did fucking stonewall.

Unfortunately most of that generations soul got bought and sold some time in the 80's.

Gen X's symbol of youthful rebellion, on the other hand, was a cable TV channel owned and operated by Viacom for the express purpose of advertising music which had been prepackaged by one of three major record labels.

I honestly think Gen X's rebellion was a fake one sold by their parents to keep any actual progress from being made. That's why we didn't see any big protests after the 70s until occupy wallstreet. Maybe the anti-war stuff during the early 00's, but early mellenials where in college by then, so I think its safe to hand that to them too.

Then again generational shit should be taken with a grain of salt and all that, but as an early Gen-Z cusper, would it be harsh to call you guys the poser generation?

I think you’ve got most of that right, except that Gen-X felt ignored and overlooked and so didn’t really have a rebellion. Gen-X was the “get stuff done in the background while others said you weren’t ready and gave the accolades to others” generation. There weren’t enough of us to make a difference with protests.

Yep. We were the most independent generation of the 1900s to today.

Early Gen X (born late 60s-early 70s) are not that dissimilar to Boomers at least where I live including my parents. One difference I see is they like hip hop and rap music more.

1968 gen Xer here.

Not my experience at all. Boomers were way different.

The biggest was in our refusal to be caged. Most gen person are far more independent them boomers were, even given tech disadvantages. This Is because the size of family units fell and became less dependent on each other.

This led to a generation that, for the first time, didn't NEED to rely so heavily on each other, and we embraced that in a way that won't be seen again in a awhile.

That scared the boomers because THEY weren't able to control us as their parents did.

And thus the de-evolution from hippy to facist.

I think your alls love affair with conspiracy theory culture is why so many of you have become fascist. I have seen this with my own parents (one of them being the same age as you).

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

What the he'll are youvtalking about? Millennial and boomers are far more fascist. We want be left the fuck alone. And BTW all the cannon ship didn't exist back then. We had a few things ,ufos, Kennedy, dr.king

But this internet conspiracy age is squarelybon the millennial shoulders. They invented them, used sales tactics and tech to drown the gullible in bullshit, and voila.

Gen xers created your computers, you spread the garbage.

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

And I notice you said "you alls" so you're NOT gen see as you claimed. We don't use that phrase either.

So I'm smelling deception on your end.

Edit And you deleted it to make it seem as you just replied lol.

Business Insider has been making click bait for over a decade. The only people in Gen X that care about this are losers. Reality would be damn near no one in Gen X thinking about it and also damn near no one knowing when gen x, or any gen, starts and ends

[–] Bennyboybumberchums@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Have to agree. Only time I think about this stuff, is when I see it posted online. And even then it zips in and out of my head because... who cares? Only most miserable of people would associate when you were born with a personality type, a political leaning, or well, anything.

We still see all this "boomers are awful" when theres millennials walking around being just as horrible. Almost like being an asshole or not wasnt linked to your birth year or something...

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 1 points 10 months ago

I think about it when I pass my old high school. They have this fence that has these posters for all the high schools accolades. Teams going to state and winning competitions and some other type of award or honors. There are a ton except none from the eighties. There is this gap and then it starts back up. Somethin was up with that time.

[–] tgcoldrockn@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago

Time can be better spent than entertaining categorical thinking about generations. The only thing these groups have in common is age range. I know because I was born on the year of the tiger.

There should be an archive link in the body of the post to bypass the wall.
