Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

If mermaids are half fish, half human… why don’t we ever see the fish-on-top, legs-on-bottom version

Nobody ever talks about the left/right mermaid.

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

Yeah, nobody’s ready for the half-and-half mermaid fish on the left, party on the right 🐟💃

There's a bar near me that has a very large reverse mermaid painted on the front, and just yesterday I met a woman with a reverse mermaid tattooed on her arm...

Maybe you just aren't looking hard enough!

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago

Guess the reverse mermaid is out here breaking all the rules and the tattoos! Maybe it’s just playing hard to find 😉🦀

If this were a rom-com, that woman (or maybe OP?) would turn out to be your soul mate, but only after you encounter some sort of setback in your relationship during the third act.

~~Because sailors never got drunk enough to see that version.~~

Edit: Let me revise that to say "Because sailors never got drunk enough to admit seeing that version when they got drunk enough to see it."

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

😂 So basically, the reverse mermaid is the ultimate secret only revealed after just enough rum, but never enough courage to admit it! 🥃🧜‍♂️🍻

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

just enough rum

This does not exist.

There is only "just one more rum," followed by "that was too much rum."

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Exactly! ‘Just enough rum’ is a myth it’s always ‘one more rum’ until the ship starts spinning! 🥃😂

"Where did I park my boat?"

--Me, allegedly, a few times.

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

Classic sailor move! At least it’s easier to find your boat than your car after a night out… unless the tide’s got other plans 🌊

Boy do I have a guy for you!

A monster from the game Metaphor: Refantazio called "Homo Fios". It's a Human size fish with legs wearing boots

Another picture of Homo Fios from Metaphor Re:Fantazio. The human-fish is facing forward with it's mouth open, after using the skill "Fishy-Fandango"

Anyway, hated the first fight against this bastard

[–] chefdano3@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

Close, Metaphor Refantasio

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 7 points 5 months ago

Because no sailor’s gonna fall in love with a trout in skinny jeans 🐟👖😂

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Mermaid: not enough fish to eat, not enough woman to love.

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 months ago

Plenty of legs to run away, no lips to kiss goodbye 🐟🦵😂

[–] IWW4@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Prolly because you can’t fap to a bikini top on a fish.

I mean guess you could if you try hard enough.

[–] hddsx@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 months ago

It’s probably be a regular fish body, on top of a human bottom half in a thong

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago (2 children)

What about a reverse centaur? Would it be a horse head on a human torso or would it still have four legs but human legs?

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Tikbalang, a creature in Filipino folklore

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

Reverse centaur? Nah, that’s just a horse that’s really bad at cosplay 🐴🦵

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)
[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 months ago

Reverse mermaid? Yeah… that’s just a seafood platter with legs

[–] cosmictrickster@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Well, there was an appearance in that one episode of Red Dwarf…but it was the object of desire for the creature descended from the ship’s cat, so…

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago

Exactly…… proof that even in space, someone’s into the weird stuff

[–] notarobot@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Because of many reasons. One of them being that fish don't talk so they wouldn't be able to sing.

Another is that top fish bottom human is the worst of both. Bad swimming and bad walking.

I had thought one more but I forgot in when I imagined a top fish bottom human mermaid twerking attract sailors

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

Yeah… until you imagine one twerking on the pier to lure sailors in. Whole new level of sea shanty 🐟🦵💃⚓

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Because there's no sea creature that looks like a fish head with human legs. Manatees look like human torsos with fish legs. If you see a manatee from above the water, you'll understand why a sailor might think they saw a mermaid. All mythological creatures sort of resemble real animals.

[–] Jas@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah, in reality, mythological creatures often borrow traits from real animals. Sailors were seeing manatees or dugongs from above round head, arm-like flippers, a swishing tail and their brains filled in the rest. Add months at sea, bad lighting, and a little wishful thinking… and suddenly, mermaids exist.
