so im making a concerted effort to really get on top of my world map and I find most regions relatively easy, based on my historical geopolitical understanding, to figure out where most countries are, but west africa has a lot of relatively smaller states which i really struggle to remember... any tips (apps, books, political stories about the region)? the gambia is goated for being river shaped obviously

central america is also not so easy and the pacific islands (which i haven't really got around to yet)

Search for world map games online. I play them once or twice a month and I even know which "stan" country they are talking about in the news.

yeah im on it, promise, that's how i got this far! just wondering if someone has a smart way to remember states in this specific region beyond just grinding it out on those apps

Outside of an Elon Musk brain chip, I'm not sure there is any way around the tried and true learning-by-rote method in this case. Guess you could visit every country, but not many of us have that kind of cash or time.

yes but those games often play in a time before or during colonisation, so most modern african countries either are not represented on the map of are pre-colonial kingdoms and tribes (paradox games)

They're probably talking about puzzle games like these: https://www.geoguessr.com/vgp/3163

Senegal is a glove holding Gambia sitting on top of Guinea-Bissau which is above the bigger Guinea. Togo then Benin.

This helped me place the countries very well. Thank you for this method of remembering.

Glad it helped! Thank you for inspiring me to study the African States. I had been meaning to for a few months now.
