14 years and 46 seasons

1,700 episodes

the series has taken up as much as 113 hours (or more) a week out of the network’s 168-hour lineup.

MTV was paying Dyrdek [...] at least $32.5 million per year

Jesus.

Dude has made half a billion dollars in less than 15 years... The show is just bullshitting about dumb videos that someone on the team found funny over the last few days, like... Bullshitting about stupid videos for 15 years and getting paid a half billion dollars for it sounds pretty chill ngl.

Thank you.

And how the fuck do you get 3.2 seasons per year?

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Most of us get four, they just took some vacation

I'm of the MTV generation and have no fucking clue what that show is.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

no surprise there. the 'mtv generation' quit watching that network over twenty years ago.

Yeah cause iTunes killed music videos.

[–] Kaerkob@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

There are still excellent and surprising music videos being made. https://youtube.com/watch?v=BiOMmc2PHbM

I'll be honest, I was expecting some nonsense from Little Big. And nonsense is pejorative.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

There are a ton of good music videos being made. But once tracks cost $2 a pop with only a portion of that going to the record label they weren't going to invest huge money in making and promoting them anymore

It was after prime mtv.

It's a show pathetic manchildren put on their background because they have no friends. (Yes, Miska, I mean you. Pathetic thief.)

I remember Rob and Big and watched that and when he had the fantasy factory I watched that too, never knew he had a clip show though.

How the fuck? It was a worse, dumber copy of Tosh.0 that itself was an edgier, more Internet based copy of The Soup which itself was a rebrand/modernization of Talk Soup.

And yet, somehow, it ran more episodes of all those shows combined.

Twisted Metal also got more games, and a TV series, vs Carmageddon which was more mature. Twisted Metal was like the kid friendly version.

Appealing to the lowest (or at least lower) common denominator works.

If a show is canceled that nobody’s watching, does it make a sound?

[–] SacredHeartAttack@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Wait, how many seasons? That can’t be correct. Did they run like 4 seasons a year?

Can’t argue that math.

With more than 1,700 episodes, “Ridiculousness” is one of the longest-running series in MTV history.... As Variety reported in 2020, the series has taken up as much as 113 hours (or more) a week out of the network’s 168-hour lineup. To many, the show became a symbol of the zombie-fication of MTV and its lack of original programming.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

it's a cheap-to-produce 'clip show' that airs with the frequency music videos used to several decades ago.

[–] burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

I think it's the only thing I ever saw on mtv as I was flipping through channels.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 month ago

Infomercials do the same thing.

[–] tyler@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago

Wait what. I thought mtv didn’t even exist anymore

[–] LordCrom@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I havent watched MTv since The Maxxxx went off the air. It became all fake reality shows of people living together.
