At this point it just seems like Bethesda is pettily jealous of mod makers for producing better content than anything they've wiped out of Todd's ass crack in the last 15 years.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 19 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Modders already fixed the game. Why does Todd keep breaking it for no reason?

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 25 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Money.

Fallout 4 – Patch Notes/New Features Creations Menu: A new in-game Creations menu has been added, making it easier than ever to discover, download and enjoy content from professional developers and passionate enthusiasts alike.

And to keep the game a bit more relevant. Season 2 of the show is about to drop in a little over a week so they're probably gearing up for that.

But imo, I don't give a shit about updates to a game I play maybe once a year at most. If people are really that upset about an update to a game, go play something else until the mods are updated too. It really shouldn't take long, and I'm honestly tired of seeing so many people bitching and moaning on every single post every single time this game gets updated.

If people are really that upset about an update to a game, go play something else until the mods are updated too.

Not all mods are going to get updated. Some will just get broken and never fixed.

It's very obnoxious for Bethesda to be dropping "updates" nobody asked for on a ten year old game.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

Damn I guess Todd Howard said "fuck SSTF in particular" and told his team to update the game.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

TIL we're "a little over a week" from mid December

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Tbh I thought all the advertising was saying mid-November

"I'm sick and tired of other people expressing their frustration. Stop being annoyed and then talking about it! It's annoying and I'm talking about it!"

Fallout London Downgrader tool my beloved

[–] LostWanderer@fedia.io 7 points 4 months ago

LOL Oh Bethesda, fucking up as always. The Steam Forums are LIVID about this latest tomfoolery by the incompetent Todd Howard squad.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You can, of course, also disable the game's ability to auto-update and keep on playing the pre-anniversary update version of it. Instructions as to how to do that on Steam, Epic, and GOG can be found here.

Fuck you, Steam, and your fucking forces updates constantly breaking my games.

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Your quote is how to disable updates. How is this then "forced" on you if it can be easily disabled?

[–] Scubus@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Difference in terminology here. He was meaning to say "forced update" not "they are forcing me to update"

A forced update is an update that is pushed without user approval. Being forced to update means that you do not have an alternative to updating.

They can push forced updates, but have an option to disable them. Theyre still forced, but theyre not forcing them on you.

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

So then every update for every game is a "forced update" by the description "pushed without user approval".

It may be an "unpopular update" but it isn't forced.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It is 100% forced. Don't know about this specific game but number of Steam games must be updated to play them and fiddling with versions is hit and miss.

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeah some games have online components that must be updated to work.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, it applies to a number of single player games, the same games which don't need any updates when purchased on GoG. It is Steam forced updates policy in play.

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I've not come across a single player game where I wanted to pause updates and couldn't. I guess you found them.

In any case, it isn't a Steam policy, the developer must disable the ability to pause updates on their game as part of the manifest they upload to Steam. So, crappy developers.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world -2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Complete and utter rubbish. It is exactly the other way around. Steam forces the updates unless developers want to make different versions avaliable.

And no, you cannot "pause updates". You can only choose if you want to update when update is available or wait till you want to play and then update before playing m

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

You and I have very different steam clients and experiences. You realise your original comment was quoting how to disable updates? Why don't you read the links from there and find out.

And developers very much have the ability to adjust how steam provides its updates, including the ability to stay on a particular update if you don't want to update

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world -4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

You and I have very different steam clients and experiences

Clearly. 🙄

You realise your original comment was quoting how to disable updates? Why don't you read the links from there and find ou

Read again. You CANNOT stop updates unless a game has a version control.

And developers very much have the ability to adjust how steam provides its updates

Your point is? It is Steam forcing updates on the users, not developers. If you buy the same game from GoG and Steam only Steam version will force updates on you.

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Out of the 7 games I have installed 5 have the option to select a version and pause updates. Is it not that common for you?

In any case it seems the developer has the option to do this.

I agree with DRM free services like gog it is a better experience for the user if it's available option for every game.

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world -5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Can you actually read?

THE SAME GAMES WHERE STEAM FORCES UPDATES DON'T HAVE UPDATES FORCED ON GOG. THEREFORE, IT IS STEAM, NOT DEVELOPERS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CRAP.

[–] lazynooblet@lazysoci.al 1 points 4 months ago

I agree with you that gog provides a better experience but you started spitting at the mouth anyway. You okay?

Developers decide whether to allow users to stay on particular versions. Steam provides the option but the games you use don't use it. Sorry I guess?

I’ll come back to Fallout when they fix the dialogue bullshit.

If Fallout Shelter can get it right FFS though I haven’t opened it in years

[–] Qkall@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

ive been waiting to play fallout 4... last time i looked to buy was after the fo4 london mod drop... then that seemed intentionally messed up ... uhg. i guess i'll wait more.

(yes i know i can stop updates and mods for that ... but as a long time skyrim modder... its best tk wait if i value a playthru)

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Fallout London does have a dedicated installer on GOG separate from the main game (and they provide instructions on how to downgrade the game so it remains compatible with fallout london and to run it as a separate game instance), so you do have options even if you play before/after this update drops.

I basically had two installs for fallout 4 - base game + mods, and the Fallout London full conversion + mods. I could switch between them on the fly.

[–] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 months ago

Read the comments on their update, people are sick of their intentional mod breaking for possible income.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

This is why I, finally, a couple of days ago, bought the GOTY edition off GOG. So, I can easily keep the game at the last version that worked well. It's a bit distressing that Bethesda is fucking around with FO4 to this level now. It looks like they're purposely trying to break community mods in order to drive people to their paid mod system.

I suppose I'll also go download the offline installer since I haven't done that yet. It might be only a matter of time before Bethesda tells GOG to stop offering that.
