I'm sure the video is good and informative, but I just hate the sensationalism of reporting on the war, regardless of the side. I hate the Mr Beast clickbaits, but slapping them onto wars that cost millions of people their lives is just completely out of touch with your humanity. I know this is probably me overreacting as someone who lives there but man do I wanna punch this guy rn.
Military

Red Army Forever
for posting on military topics
The style he's got is definitely crass, but he has been doing some of the best reporting on what's actually happening that I've come across.
Yeah, at this point clickbait thumbnails are unfortunately almost a necessity for survival on these platforms. This is by no means a good thing, and it didn't have to be this way, the algorithm was deliberately designed to be this way, but it is what it is and we have to deal with it.
Yup, I find lately I've just been running videos through a transcriber I made and reading the summaries unless there's something really big happening where I want to get more details. https://git.sr.ht/~yogthos/transcribe-yt
Makes sense, that's a much more efficient use of time. And i personally find i internalize information better when i am reading it rather than just hearing it. Everyone has their own learning style that works best for them.
yeah I prefer reading as well, and I've also noticed that a lot of the time there's just not that much new interesting info so podcasts will just keep repeating stuff you already know, and then have a bit of actual news here and there
I get it and I agree but literally making your titles & thumbnails clickbait is genuinely the only way to get a lot of people to see them. Even Hakim has to do this.
This is how YouTube's algo was intentionally designed.
Yeah, it's honestly maddening
Thats why I mostly watch Weeb Union (dont laugh) he mostly keeps to dramatic titles, while the actual content isnt very sensational.
Military summary is much better as well as weeb union, I stopped watching the guy OP linked when he started making transphobic 'jokes' and playing to reactionaries, hes pretty shit.
There's a YouTube extension that changes thumbnails to a key frame on the video, reducing clickbaitness. Sadly soyfacing is encouraged by the recommender system.
That sounds great! I need to find that extension.
It's DeArrow. Also check out the extensions SponsorBlock and Enhancer for Youtube.
I found a YouTube link in your post. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
