Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Most conservatives are socially minded .... the only difference is that they want all those socially minded ideas to only apply to their particular ethnic or racial group and no one else. To them, every other racial group should serve their social agenda for their people's benefit.

You literally just described national socialism…

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you think about it, social democracy historically was also moreso for this purpose, although moreso citizenship based.

Throwing others under the bus is an easy way to turn racists into political allies. It was a popular strategy in the first rise of fascism for obvious reasons, for example the Greek party wanted to genocide Turkey to Make Greece Great Again. FDR's coalition was put together under the premise that black people wouldn't get the same benefits, etc etc etc.

It's also why even the best kind of liberal can't be trusted, much less your Newsome types

which is why it's easy to make them erode civil rights, then they cry when their civil rights are eroded.

Trump's social group would be super-rich white people. I can't really see how Mamdani caters to that group unless he's just lying about his entire platform.

We can end illegal immigration and deregulate minimum wage by issuing a standard baseline amount to all legal citizens

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The only actual effective way to eliminate or at least drastically reduce illegal immigration is to make legal immigration easier, cheaper, and faster.

Should still do UBI, though, with price controls to make sure that landlords and corporations don't just eliminate its usefulness by price gouging.

Considering they're currently deporting legal immigrants, dreamers, and actual citizens, it was never about illegal immigration. The Democrats pretending like illegal immigration was an issue to take seriously and deporting more people than the Republicans never won them an ounce of support from the real racist base. It only normalized the Republican position.

it was never about illegal immigration.

Of course not.

The Democrats pretending like illegal immigration was an issue (...) only normalized the Republican position.

Here's an idea: an economy that doesn't just capture almost all money and power in a few dozen individuals, and instead actually incentivizes healthy societies and good governance

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

We could probably curb most illegal immigration by imposing harsh penalties for anyone found employing people illegally, but no one's ever gonna go after the owner class. Not that I think it's desirable to have fewer immigrants mind you.

why would we want to end "illegal immigration" when it's a bullshit phrase from the start. all borders are arbitrary.

Eww eww I have seen this game before. It is like when someone explains slavery but uses the word citizen instead! Or when Orwellian is the secret corpo buzzword. Or the jolly roger is Ycombiner alumni suits.

A Trump meme? Really? This is fucking weird.

[–] ImgurRefugee114@reddthat.com 14 points 1 month ago

It's due to the recent press with Mamdani
