zelensky started purging them from the military

when did this happen?

edit: found a source hereNEVER, IT NEVER HAPPENED

[-] LocalMaxima@hexbear.net 62 points 1 year ago

Purged by having them die in combat

[-] space_comrade@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

Critical uuuuuh support for nazis willingly throwing themselves in the meat grinder.

[-] ProxyTheAwesome@hexbear.net 55 points 1 year ago

Putin did most of the purging for him

[-] TheGamingLuddite@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

Liberals have a grassroots process of extrapolating good/bad things based on vibes. Of course, the NYT won't publish report that Putin is trying to eradicate every Ukrainian, but he's a bad guy, so he must be.

Zelenskyy is a good guy, and he's Jewish, so he must have denazified the military, even if there's no source for these claims.

Once you notice this pattern you can find it everywhere, there's no critical thinking going on at all. Like Qanon there's a vibe, a (very stupid) utopian horizon, and any information at all is confirmation that the vibe is correct, Putin is losing, Ukraine is winning, bidenomics exists and is working and we're one proxy war away from the liberal internationale.

You could literally bring Hitler back from the dead and libs would argue that he's not a nazi.

[-] Shrike502@lemmygrad.ml 52 points 1 year ago

"Well he is against smoking and is vegan and supports animal rights!"

Pretty sure I've even seen such a take already

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

Calling Hitler vegan is so gross. As if they're saying all the people killed in the Holocaust are less than animals.

You're right, though, there's a disturbing amount of Nazi apologism these days.

[-] charly4994@hexbear.net 40 points 1 year ago

I always saw the myth that he was vegetarian as further condemnation on his views since he didn't even view the victims as animals. In reality he only sometimes did vegetarianism because he got gassy. All these defenses of him fall flat pretty fast with even mild education which is just extra depressing.

[-] huf@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

i thought his vegetarianism was mainly gobbling up snacks cos he was high as fuck

he'd show up at the EU like "the migrant crisis now threatens to destroy european democracy" and they'd be like "hm damn okay let's hear him out."

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

They made a movie about this lol

[-] VILenin@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

Remember the legions of eurochuds who watched this and thought the message was “we need Hitler back”?

Average conservative media literacy.

[-] ImOnADiet@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 year ago

There’s german satire movie where he comes back to life in modern day Germany with this premise lol

They'll just say Nazis weren't that bad like they're doing right now.

[-] Redderthanmisty@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 1 year ago

Have you ever seen the film 'look who's back'? Every day, it looks more and more like a documentary than a comedy.

This is why education is so fucking important. Assuming this person is telling the truth, then they don't know what Nazi symbols look like. That's a failure of the education of their country to protect them from dangerous people.

[-] LocalMaxima@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago

It’s not a nazi symbol, it’s just the symbol US Marine Scout Snipers like a lot

[-] BeamBrain@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago

Ask them if they'd be willing to go into a synagogue wearing those symbols

[-] Vode_An@lemmy.ml 49 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Meaningless. Ask a Jewish comrade if they deserve the wall and follow their recommendation.

Who gives a shit about whether a fascist is willing to self-identify. If a person willingly displays fascist iconography, the pit is where they belong.

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

sometimes people are just genuinely uneducated. good chance they really have no idea what those symbols mean.

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

I've known about these stupid nazi larp scribbles since being a metalhead in high school and learning about NSBM and how many nazis were infesting the metal scene was but yeah, I have to assume the average person isn't quite as familiar with silly magic nazi runes

It's been wild seeing these things popping up on more and more mainstream contexts

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Usually when I’m uneducated and someone makes a claim, I do basic research to see if what they’re saying is bullshit. They have no excuse if they’re wasting time defending Ukraine on the internet. Especially since the clown knows enough propaganda talking points to claim that Zelensky purged Nazis

[-] Frank@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

How do I make the emojis real big I want to post hte cat screm emoji real big but I need it to represent how extremely cat screm I feel. I AHATJKel;A EW W4RG HQAEW;RLKGHJAEKLRDF;VAEDRFJSV L;KERFV being the person who knows all these fucking symbols and then some gormless liberal creature will go "nuh uh they're not nazis" and it's like you fucking credulous, unacceptably ignorant fuck you have no right to be like this all the actors on the stage know what this shit means and all you're doing is providing shadows for the fascists to hide in you absolute loathsome shitheads fuck.

I really can't figure out how standing in front of a razed city counts as liberating the city.

[-] Awoo@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

This particular location was a single street with about 20 buildings on it before this. Now it's flat and entirely undefendable by either side so they just move in, take a picture then move back to an actually defendable position.

[-] ZapataCadabra@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Bakhmut was basically rubble by the time Russia conquered it. This is the reality of peer to peer warfare in the modern age.

My Ukrainian isn't so good but did he just say "Slava ukraini, Slava nazi" Holy shit lol

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

So this is weird, but 'slava nazi' means 'glory to the nation' in Ukrainian. Like the word 'nation' in Ukrainian is literally 'nazi'.

Taken from Yandex:

Nation : нація [ sounds like nazi ]

Nazi : нацист [ sounds like nazist ]

So the whole 'idea of the nation' thing is really a dog whistle. Nation / Nationalist /Nazi all share the same root word in Ukrainian.

I'm not a Ukrainian linguist, but that seems a touch problematic, especially for political discourse in that language.

Kinda explains a lot how this glorification of nazi ideology has been perpetuated within the culture over decades. Their form of nationalism seems to be linguistically connected to nazism.

sus-torment

[-] VILenin@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

“Nazi” comes from a shortening of the German “Nationalsozialistische”. The “ti” is pronounced like a “z”. So “Nazi” comes from “National” and anywhere whose “National” sounds like “Nazional” is going to sound like “Nazi” to a non-native speaker. I’m sure “national” is a common loan word in Europe. This guy is probably a Nazi not because of some linguistic connection between “national” and “Nazi” but because he’s a Ukrainian nationalist.

That's really interesting, linguistics can be a fuck sometimes.

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Ya, linguistically this isn't too far off from 'white' supremacy. Whiteness and the color white being a representation of purity, cleanliness, angels etc as being related to racist characteristics. Linguistics do indeed be a fuck sometimes.

[-] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

Sure freaking sounds like it.

I only hate reddit-logo lingo because I used to type in it. At some point when I was using that site a lot, years ago, I realized how much that reddit language was making my comments more obnoxious and consciously tried to stop.

Brenton Tarrant was just an early supporter of Ukrainian independence, and he was prosecuted by the pro-Putin New Zealand authorities
