All killer, no filler - well done OP!

If you ever expand your collection then Conkers Bad Fur Day is a bit of a hidden gem which came at the end of the consoles lifecycle.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Is that really considered hidden? I thought its gem status was well known.

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Hidden gem in the sense that it sold extremely poorly on release. It's become a cult classic since then so probably not "hidden" for people interested in retro games.

Goid lord, i had Mario Cart and GoldenEye and that was it :)

Fuck Nintendo, I've mibed to Linux gaming and am eyeballing a Steamdeck

I don't feel bad about playing retro games because it's not like Nintendo gets a cut on N64 games on ebay or that I got from people I know. The N64 is the newest Nintendo system I have any interest in, so I dodge all the issues of supporting the company.

Don't sleep on the Gamecube man, some real bangers on there. Hell on the Wii and WiiU too. And the Switch. Damn it, say what you want about Nintendo, but they make some damn good games. Luckily emulation or, as you say, second-hand market exists.

  • Star Fox 64
  • Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • GoldenEye 007
  • Super Mario 64
  • Star Wars Episode I: Racer
  • Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
  • Perfect Dark

Is that right?

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 1 points 22 hours ago

That's all of them.

[–] WarTowel@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I loved perfect dark as a kid. I played it with my brother and cousins all the time. I don't talk to them much these days.

Something from that game messed with my head. Whenever I played I had a lot of trouble sleeping at night, it didn't matter if I played 10 minutes or 2 hours or what time of the day I played it

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

With the exception of rogue squadron those are basically all the major games of my childhood

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's a great game, it feels right on the N64. The PC version to me just feels off.

It's got great missions, and I really like the variety of fighters. It even has the Naboo fighter as a secret, which blew my mind to see before the movie was actually out.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Very cool! I'll have to see if I can find a copy for a reasonable price! That and dust off my n64

[–] TechnoCat@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

n64 has so many great games

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

It was definitely quality over quantity vs the PlayStation. One year after I got a bonus I bought the resident evil 2 port for it because I find the fact that it exists to be miraculous; they had to do some wizardry to fit the 2 CDs into one cartridge with 64MB.

All of these are bangers. You need a kart racer though and my permanent recommendation of the unsung gem of the console: Blast Corps

[–] imfineRD88@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I never really played this console much growing up. Me being a late 90s kid, I only played the DS version of Mario 64 so I played it at least.

Great collection! But no love for Majora's Mask?

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

I'm not a hardcore collector. Most of these were kept by me or scavenged from people I know who were clearing old stuff out.

If I ever sit down and get through all the games to the point I'm bored of them, I might try and find a reasonably priced copy of Majora's Mask though.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Really only need mario kart 64.

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Honestly I never really liked it single player. The Star Wars podracer game keeps me way more engaged. The customization really helps.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

100% Mario Kart is really only for the multiplayer

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Nice collection, how does rogue squadron run? I remember #2 was really buggy on the GameCube version

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Perfect. I don't notice any lag.

FWIW, I don't like the sequel games nearly as much so maybe the development overall of the first game was better.

[–] VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 days ago

Great collection. I could play Star Fox 64 for years.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

I had every one of those except for Star Wars Episode I Racer.

I mean, those are the essentials. Sweet collection! :)
