I'd never heard of the date command, despite her assurances it's one of the first commands I ever learned.

I wish she put it on a blog. Can't sign in to youtube, don't want to sign in to youtube.

Newpipe {mob) or Freetube let you watch without sign in?

Exactly. Saw a thumbnail of a video on YouTube the other day: "ls -l >(cat)" (something to that effect) accompanied by something like "Insane Bash tricks you never know!" I never clicked on that video. The command looked intrigued, but I don't want to spend ten minutes watching a video to know that.

Edit: It looks like it's the same person.

I saw like the first couple minutes of that video, but if I recall correctly the <(thing) bit creates a temporary file in /proc so you can use it right away with your command, in the example you gave, with ls

Her enthusiasm is addicting. Love seeing people get so excited over using their own OS/Machine!

Its interesting last month or so youtube has seemed to switched on how it feels about Linux lately. You get small creators that are making videos like the above and its awesome.

Its a good feeling.

There are quite a few great linux content creators on youtube. The Black Don, Tony (his tmux config is top notch), typecraft, Diinki, Vimjoyer (who pretty much taught me how to use NixOS completely), and Veronica Explains.

Although Veronica is unfortunately taking time off because of the comments she receives which really sucks as her videos remind me of old episodes of the Screen Savers and Call for Help.

This list is awesome.

And so are you!

Given the end of Windows 10 and how many are not happy with Windows 11, its probably an thing the community themselves is responsible for. Also lot of popular YouTubers make videos about Linux, which surely contributes to the popularity increase of the topic in YouTube. I wouldn't attribute this perceived change to YouTube itself.
