No I wouldn't consider these as viable everyday wear, but given how badly nearsighted I am, they still give me much better focus than my natural vision.

I got 2 pairs of these delivered today for only $7.16 total πŸ‘

I couldn't help but notice your username. I actually own an original ET game cartridge for the Atari 2600. Sadly not from the dump site though, also no box or manual, but I'd almost be willing to bet all the money in my wallet the game still works if I had a working Atari to put the cartridge in.

Oh wait, I have $0 in my wallet, so I guess I'm betting $0 that it works LOL! πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

I have actually tried the game with the Stella Atari emulator, and yeah, the game makes no fucking sense 🀦

Edit: Is there a PDF or otherwise scanned copy of the manual out there?...

IDK, Merry Christmas πŸŽ„

What's this got to do with AI?

[–] Tiger@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Anti facial or eye recognition

[–] CanadaPlus 1 points 7 hours ago

Normal sunglasses would work just as well.

[–] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

I'm pretty sure that won't foil any sort of serious facial recognition.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Blocking facial recognition, duh.

[–] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

This ain't gonna block facial recognition for shit, duh.

They help improve blurry vision to an extent, without needing a prescription. They're definitely not any substitute for prescription glasses for everyday wear, but for $7.16 for 2 pairs of them, they're a fine emergency backup.

Though they are a little odd to look through, but not too bad really. Still, with all that said, I definitely would not recommend driving a vehicle with them on.

A pinhole camera doesn't focus light. Only lenses can focus light. The reason why looking through a small hole makes the image sharper is exactly because that basically prevents the lens in your eye to "misdirect" light that's coming in from the side.

But there is a reason why our eyes are not pin hole cameras. The amount of light that hits your retina is pretty low when looking through a pin-hole so that actually only works on bright sunny days.

They work okay indoors too, with reasonable lighting anyways. Not any substitute for proper prescription glasses, but good as a cheap emergency backup.

For emergency it's probably way simpler to just make a small hole with your hand (like the diver "OK" sign but tighter) and look through that.

I appreciate the much more thorough and accurate answer. Thank you.

I'm surprised they still make these. My mom got some for the whole family like 25 years ago, because she heard that they'd improve her vision over time. They did not. She's damn near blind, though lol

It's neat that they work well for you, what activities do you use them for?

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I just got them today LOL, basically just bought them as a super cheap emergency backup should anything ever happen to my proper prescription glasses.

Although far from perfect, I'd say that my vision is about 3 times better while wearing them compared to my natural vision, but then again I'm extremely nearsighted, like 20/500 level nearsighted.

And yes I'm wearing them right now as I type my messages on my tablet. I'm gonna keep them on and try them out through the day, save for any driving, that's a no-go, while I keep my prescription glasses on my hat to swap out if I need.

What did Al ever do to you?

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Nothing that I know of yet. Hoping to keep it that way too...

Called him Betty.

Oh wait - that's AI, not Al, isn't it? πŸ€ͺ
