Hi all, I'm currently working on a hobby project currently titled "Prometheus and the Gods" (but will be changed at a later date to reference the duck), where you are tasked by Prometheus, the Titan who stole fire from the gods, to infiltrate in the worlds of the twelve (Greek) Olympian gods and steal their power for the humans (e.g. mastery of the seas from Poseidon). In addition, the player is a duck, which is kind of fun.

The game will mostly be about solving puzzles and going through obstacle courses, rather than real-time combat. The player can interact with "totems" to use the powers of what Wikipedia calls "nature deities": Helios, the all-seeing Sun god, Achelous, the river god of the largest river in Athens I think, and the four Anemoi, the winds (N/S/E/W)

I've got the basic movement down, and I think I have done a decent job at making pixel art for the player, character sprites, and the world. However, I'm not very good at level design at all, and the levels that I have added (tutorial + meeting the four winds) aren't all that fun to play, they all are either a) too easy b) way too difficult or c) just boring/uninteresting.

I am looking for someone who has any skill in level design, and ideally some experience with Godot as well. (two programmers are better than one!) This is a hobby project that won't be making any money though, so this isn't a job or anything, just a bit of fun. No set schedule or anything.

the project's repo if you want to look at what I have so far: https://codeberg.org/sbird/prometheus-and-the-gods

I dabble a bit in Godot myself. Would be fun to work with people instead of doing everything on my own.

I could try to make music for the game. You have a specific mood in mind?

[–] sbeak@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Probably music that gets more intense/fast-paced as you get further into the realms of each god. The music will probably be cheerful and nice with a ancient Greek kind of theme (I think? Or it could just be 8 bit music with the pixel art and all) since the game won't be too serious (the characters say a few silly things here and there).

Also, each world will probably have its own flavour of soundtrack (Dionysus, the god of wine, would have a partying/dancing kind of theme, Poseidon, the god of the seas, would have an underwater kingdom kind of vibe, etc.)

If that's too much for you, then that's fine. I can always make something up myself using the beat maker thingy.

Is that Pitfall?

Note: there does appear to be a “find a team” community, but there’s only four posts, and it looks like it died a year or so ago…

Maybe if people looking for a team, actually post in [INAT] inat@programming.dev , it won't be dead any-more.
Cue -> you

I have subscribed to it and similar communities and check them every month or so.

I won't be able to help you with what you need, but I just wanted to tell you that I really like the pixel art. I do think that the character is a bit small compared to the whole screen though. But I guess that depends on how fast paced the action is.

Thanks! The relatively small player let's you see more of your surroundings, which I think is good probably. Or maybe not, I dunno. The real reason is I can't really do big pixel art

I think it looks good. Compare against 1 Screen Platformer.

I could perhaps do some sounds for you! I’d love the challenge of making action noises and such to whatever brief you’re going for

That would be kind of fun! :D

I have professional coding experience and am currently going to school for game design, hoping to specialize in level design. I don't currently know Godot but I've been wanting to learn. So idk if I have exactly the needed skills right now but I'm willing to help if you're willing to put up with me going through a bit of a learning curve (and there will be times I'm quite busy at school)

[–] sbeak@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

Godot is quite easy to pick in my opinion, GDScript (the language used to write scripts) is very similar to Python, you just need to get the hang of working with nodes and signals. I would be glad to help you get the hang of Godot :D

And being busy at school will be no problem, I don't have a fixed schedule (I am also busy in school) so that's all good.

Why is the duck standing up on two legs?

[–] cornshark@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How many legs does a duck usually stand on in your experience?

[–] webp@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago

Two, but they usually stand down on two legs (they are very short)

*Flowers, too.

I'll take my writing credit, kthx.

I’m a web dev what can I do
