President Donald Trump just made it clear that he already has his eyes set on a new target following the US's capture of the president of Venezuela. During a press conference on Saturday, he urged Colombian President Gustavo Petro to 'watch his ass.' The threat marks a dramatic escalation in tensions across Latin America, with Trump openly invoking the Monroe Doctrine to assert US dominance in the Western Hemisphere.

Time to 25th Amendment this fucking lunatic.

[–] gustofwind@lemmy.world 128 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

His whole cabinet are with him

All of maga/gop are with him

They control both congressional houses + the Supreme Court

Half the dems are ok with half of what he does

[–] WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com 55 points 4 weeks ago

None of which alters the fact that he's patently insane.

Though it does certainly call their mental health into question too.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 23 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Did Watdabney stutter??? All I'm hearing is that "all of maga and half the dems" need to be taken out like the trash that they are.

[–] timbuck2themoon@sh.itjust.works 28 points 4 weeks ago (28 children)

You first.

Seriously, all this stupid talk of guillotines and everything else. You do realize a full third voted for this, a full third DID NOT CARE to vote at all. And honestly, until economic issues affect them those same 2/3 won't care to do jack shit. And let me tell you, the 1/3 that hates this aren't despaired enough to foment a revolution.

God these pithy sentiments are useless. Familiarize yourself with reality and understand that we are so, so far away from any real change.

This shit isn't his original idea. Without the Project 2025 gang whispering in his ear, none of this would have occurred to him.

[–] WatDabney@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 4 weeks ago

And they can whisper in his ear successfully because he's insane.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Why would they? Trump is everything the GOP's been asking for since Bush 43.

I will compliment the article’s author for using direct quotes from Trump.

Too often, the press tend to clean up his grammar so it makes sense and doesn’t seem so offensive to the literate.

Direct quotes like “watch his ass” and “got bum-rushed right so fast that he didn't get into that” help convey not only Trump’s sentiment, but how god-awful ignorant the fuckwit is.

[–] tarball@lemmy.zip 30 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I live in Europe, so I often read coverage in my own language, which means Trump’s quotes are translated. Translators could easily smooth out the grammar and make him sound coherent, but they don’t. They clearly put effort into preserving not just the meaning, but also the tone and sheer incoherence. You end up with these translations that capture the rambling, the aggression, and the stupidity, just in another language.

There's guiding foreign politics with an invisible hand behind closed doors and there is this... openly threatening and attacking anything that moves.

The US will have a fantastic time occupying numerous hostile countries at once, dealing with nonstop 24/7 guerilla attacks. US empire collapse speedrun.

If only it could commit suicide instead of killing even more innocents before its eventual demise sometime in the future...

it’s win win for these fascists. this action either gets them profit or fails. but the seeds for another “9/11” are planted during these ops. fast forward 20 years and something pops off and we have another cycle of “manufactured consent.”

the us is disgusting.

[–] eli@lemmy.world 8 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Really trying not to sound pro-Trump or whatever this move is, but the US military certainly does not need to be boots on the ground and deal with "guerilla attacks".

We've seen with Ukraine that drone warfare is highly effective and if the US wants to clear a supposed guerilla location they'll just carpet bomb it all.

And if they establish FOBs then a few drone operators(based in the US still btw) with infrared and some dudes in outposts with thermals will do just fine against any guerilla tactics.

We can compare this to Vietnam or whatever, but a lot has changed in 50 years and with Venezuela it's clear that South America is not ready for this type of aggression.

Again, not advocating for this and certainly this move against Venezuela is clearly illegal and warmongering, but saying this will collapse the "US empire" is beyond ignorant.

We’ve seen with Ukraine that drone warfare is highly effective and if the US wants to clear a supposed guerilla location they’ll just carpet bomb it all.

That's what you get from Ukraine? Cuz what I got is that a dime a dozen drone can take down millions of dollars of military equipment. Our shit is bloated, expensive, and built by organizations that rival the largest governments on the planet in terms of bureaucracy. Do you remember any of that recent shit with Boeing?

In this scenario, we're Russia.

It's easy to move in and destabilize a government. It's another entirely to control a whole region that doesn't want you there.

We can compare this to Vietnam or whatever, but a lot has changed in 50 years and with Venezuela it’s clear that South America is not ready for this type of aggression.

Why Vietnam? Try Iraq or Afghanistan except the destabilized nations we're "building" are in our backyard. Great. 👍

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 12 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Unlike Vietnam, there are millions of people in the US that are either from or that have close family in Latin America. That's why they spent the last year trying to deport and terrorize migrants, why they want to go after naturalized citizens, why they talk about going after "home growns" after they've finished rounding up the migrants, etc etc. It's all laying the groundwork for this next stage.

We'll see how well it works. I think they're moving too fast and it's going to blow up in their faces.

America in all its movies: We saved the world and showed everyone that we are true heroes of freedom and democracy. USA USA USA!

America in the real world: Starts a war over oil they have no right to, kidnaps country leaders and threatens other countries in order to get what they want, and will coup enemies and allies alike just to benefit themselves.

This is just the status quo for you lunatics.

[–] chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world 53 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I literally said this as soon as I heard about Venezuela. He's gonna go after Columbia, and then he's going for the Panama Canal. If anyone is surprised by this, they haven't been paying attention.

Making cocaine? Watch out?

Why? Is Trump wanting to buy a bunch of cocaine from him to throw a coke and pedophilia party at Mara-lago or something?

[–] tabris@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago

It's a euphemism for "I heard you have oil, want!"

[–] lepinkainen@lemmy.world 46 points 3 weeks ago (6 children)

For fucks sake not everything is a damn distraction from the files.

I am so tired of every little thing being a "distraction", as if it is not entirely possible multiple awful things can happen at the same time.

[–] lepinkainen@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago

The press and public have the ability to focus only on one bad thing at a time

It’s the Gish gallop and Donald and his crew are reaaaaally good at it.

The fucker needs to be out of office asap and “we” need to focus on something that will stick. Being a fucking pedo is something even hardcore MAGA can’t rationalise

This is what Donny wants, to cause chaos in central and South America. In time most if not all countries south of our border will unite against him and that will be all he needs to declare war. He will then try to suspend the midterms and the 2028 election in an attempt to stay in power.
