For anyone struggling to sleep during this heatwave, and stuck without adequate AC - try this: wet a t-shirt, hand towel or similar, wring most of the water out and lay it on your chest in bed.

That got me through many summer nights during my renting days.

Wet a hand towel and drape it around your neck and shoulders.

Damp facewasher between my wrists was a good one for me.

Large pet cooling mat. Get that under your torso

Wet face washer/towel, plus fan or a big piece of flat cardboard to emulate Nerfertiti being fanned by her harem. โœจโœจโœจ

I used to wet a bandana and put it around my neck

Had the sprinklers going yesterday evening and the whole family was outside playing and spraying each other.

Felt really wholesome and a little white trash (in the best way possible).

I don't think the 'leave early' messaging from the fire services is really getting through. People seem to interpret it more as 'wait around at home watching until the fire is at your doorstep, then start packing things into your car to leave at the most dangerous possible time'. I don't understand. Am I reading different material to everyone else? Are you guys seeing the 'leave early' messages or 'wait until you are on fire' messages?

This dream brought to you by having cheese for dinner and reading about a WoW event happening in Fed Square later this month.

spoiler

Had a dream that I went to a wedding that was Wizard of Oz themed, but next to a WoW raid similar to Karazhan and you could go into rooms and kills mobs like The Wizard and then use a dragon mod to pose for photo ops. The wedding was loads of fun until someone decided to give my table a champagne showerโ€ฆ but with red wine. Lots of mad people. My aunty and sister were both there and we were just laughing how funny it all was.

Keep an eye on the gutters in the streets - apparently some of them have populations of live koi living in them to eat up all the grot & algae etc.

I've been testing a theory at work for running ads I've dubbed 'UNCposting' where I've taken dodgy photos the territory managers have taken and made them look like Facebook marketplace listings.

One ad in particular has gotten over 6,000 clicks since Christmas so I turned it into a lead collection ad and received 5 leads today alone

Whoopsie doodle. Didn't put a shade cloth over the tomatoes yesterday.

Didn't end well.

Sun-dried tomatoes?

Itโ€™s been a rough week of being let down by people, so to cheer myself up I signed back up to HBO for a month. Iโ€™d stopped all subscriptions a while back cos of cost. Absolutely stoked to find Common Side Effects has finally been added! Been so keen to watch it after Scavengers Reign.

Making more broth. I think Iโ€™ve already screwed up by adding boiled water from the kettle to get it cooking faster, it wonโ€™t be nice and clear. I know I should have started with cold. But with practice results will improve.

I might put the cooked beef chunks in the blender at the end to make them easier to eat (and to mix into the proper cat food).

So back in the naughties, in highschool, my friend would share music with me. She'd have her dad burn a CD for her, and give it to me. She introduced me to Nickel Creek (bluegrass band, 10/10, highly recommend), and Elliott Smith. I shared Paul Simon with her. In the era when PCs always had a disk drive, and burners were available too. I can't believe my current PC doesn't have a disk drive lol

What music did you share/be introduced to, and what medium did you use to share it?

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Tapes recorded off the radio. Pretty much everything from mid 90's: NIN, Rage against the machine, Tool etc

Then I used to burn my mp3 collection for mates.

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I remember sitting on the big chest freezer in my bedroom waiting for Kylie Minogue to start on the radio so I could try and hit record at the very right second.

The DJ always talked at the start of the song. So annoying!

[โ€“] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Cassette tapes, mid to late 90s, then CDs in the 00s.

I got introduced to punk (Dead Kennedys, Rancid, Black Flag), hip hop (too many artists to mention), D&B and Jungle.

[โ€“] SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I cannot stand DnB and Jungle, but as a bouncer, the crowds at Dream nightclub were awesome.

I never shared music via cassette, but I did have a radio/cd player/cassette player. It's speakers were translucent blue plastic, and I'd use tapes to record songs off the radio. Timing it just right to get most of the start of the song, and less of the DJ as possible ๐Ÿ˜‚

Punk rock records.
