That's actually really clever. Triggering an anger response with an urgency to act will reduce the victim's critical thinking and make the phishing attack more likely to succeed.

This is pretty good. The spelling and grammar are fine, and to be honest, the concept is sadly believable given how corporations have bowed down to Trump and MAGA.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Also infuriating, so you're going to be pissed off and more likely to click the link without thinking.

[–] TomMasz@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

A rage click response to rage bait.

The spelling & grammar mistakes are normally on purpose to weed out the educated that will waste time but not fall for the final step. This is much cleverer.

Im only getting conservative ragebait :(

Are you a registered republican, or live in a conservative area? I’m registered R so I can vote for the least crazy candidate in their primaries. Because a democrat has basically zero chance of winning the general election in my district. And I get the MAGA bait too.

Im not from America

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

You're on the wrong list

This is a really good phishing trap. Looks genuine and good grammar and punctuation...I would fall for it.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think I might as well, and I've taught corporate information security classes.

[–] stiffyGlitch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I've been a student teacher at one for about 3 months. that was years and years ago. still cant remember anything that I learned :(

good phishing email but what does TW mean? am i stupid

[–] bobo1900@startrek.website 23 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Usually Trigger Warning, to warn someone more sensitive to triggers to be careful. Don't really know which trigger would be in this email?

[–] supergrizzlybear@pawb.social 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

thanks (to both replies)

probably would be quite triggering to someone who's been scammed sadly

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Also triggering to anyone upset by ICE murdering people in the streets. I've never been scammed, but the idea of my emails automatically announcing support for the gestapo stirred up some feelings in me.

... which is why it's an excellent phishing email, hats off to them. I'd be way more likely to rush to the link in this case than if I received a standard "your account is being locked" phish.

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

If someone isn’t upset you already know.

[–] supergrizzlybear@pawb.social 1 points 2 weeks ago

sorry i was really high when i wrote that, yes of course ice is the real reason

[–] threeduck@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Trigger warnings should be labelled anyway, like TW [rape]. A blanket trigger warning is useless, how are people supposed to know what topic is triggering?

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

What if abbreviations are my trigger?

[–] core@leminal.space 6 points 2 weeks ago

Then you're SOL

[–] bobo1900@startrek.website 1 points 2 weeks ago

Can't save them all

[–] tugboat_willie@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

TW = Trigger Warning

[–] null@piefed.nullspace.lol 21 points 3 weeks ago

Ooh, I should start adding a FUCK ICE footer element to my emails.

[–] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

No matter how tempted you may be, never click links in emails. You can go to your own settings without using that link in the email.

I guess I must be doing something right.
