I’m just a normal functioning member of the human race and there’s no way anyone can prove otherwise.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

As a brain surgeon, I much prefer the Sopranos.

[–] GoodGuyWithACat@hexbear.net 30 points 2 weeks ago

Brain surgery. Well, it's not exactly rocket science.

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 21 points 2 weeks ago

One of the most brilliant things about the show is how it has such a gimmick with how it's shot but you don't even notice because it's so well done. If anything it adds to the show because it's full of close-ups on people as they're put through excruciating situations

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

Neither of these shows have a single wizard and/or spaceship so they are boring

[–] The_Grinch@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Look like a couple of men with ven.

Yeah, it’s all lies isn’t it? I mean, don’t tell me that Blair wears a suit and tie when he’s lounging around at home watching Big Brother

I think the sad thing is though that so many in today’s fascist movement are essentially descended from these two types of guys. Guys who would’ve been sort of left-wing in the 2000s, if only just aesthetically, and liked the idea of being political but didn’t have much to offer beyond “the government sucks,” who were vaguely angry at the world with no idea why and had nothing going right for them yet saw themselves as superior to everyone around them, eventually getting pulled down the right wing conspiracy rabbit hole since it hits so many of their buttons: making them feel superior that they’ve hit upon some secret knowledge, explaining their anger to them, and being extremely contrarian. And then on the other side internet forum debatelords who are really nerdy and extremely embarassed about it but are fundamentally nice guys who are just so socially inept that nothing ever goes right for them and the whole experience of living just creates a huge amount of shame and so they develop these weird power fantasies that are oddly sexual to deal with it. Also they’re obsessed with ww2 and the Nazis and this interest eventually moves from nerdy historical interest to admiration.

Exactly what I was thinking about lol.

“Or maybe I’m just overreacting. Maybe everyone does it now and it’s ‘cool’ and ‘Ali G’ and I’m just an old stick-in-the-mud as usual”

Edit: also

“Of course she’s ignoring me, this morning I sent her a bloody swastika. Jesus, this is the worst thing that has happened to anybody, ever. Relax Mark, you’re not Hitler in his bunker. He was really under the cosh. Mind you, at least he had a girlfriend.”

How thick is wall?

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

bit of a shame mitchell and webb mostly do the panel circuit now instead of writing their own projects

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They realised Mitchell and Webb aren't helping last year

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

i there some tea here or is it a joke going over my head

[–] SupFBI@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Typo. Tomtits meant "released", me thinks.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

omfg how hadn't i heard of that, lol. gonna hit it up presently

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's had mixed reviews, I think they're doing another series though

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i checked it out, there were some very solid bits and i like the rest of the cast. not quite as tight as it could be but its a first series and only 6 episodes

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Have you watched Back? It's got them both in but it's not really peep show-esque.

David is also in Ludwig, which is like a less camp Johnathan Creek

[–] blimthepixie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yep it's a typo

[–] uSSRI@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Men with ven are about to rise again

[–] BGDelirium@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago

Just started to watch Peep Show {one series in} and I can confirm it's better than Sopranos

Give me The Wire and Oz for my late 90s, early 2000s HBO prestige dramas

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 8 points 2 weeks ago

On the last season of my current re-watch, with a side of That Mitchell and Webb Look

[–] LeninWalksTheEarth@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Mitchell and Webb have a new sketch show that came out, 6 episodes. It's pretty good too.

I only watch dramas if it's sci-fi. That's something i realized kinda recently.

Drama? Nah. Drama with future science, time travel, cloning or whatever? Hell yea.

Rap and r&b music? It's ok. Rap or r&b vocals with a house beat? Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

[–] kleeon@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

nah mr bean is the best show ever made

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Im gonna disagree just based in the fact that it's British and mist British shows, especially highly rated ones are crap, especially if theyre comedies. Can't stand Red Dwarf, never liked either Office even 20 years ago, Shaun of the Dead is boring af and Hitchhiker'a Guide to the Galaxy is just waaaaay too proud of itself for being clever. Good British shows are as follows: Monty Python, The Young Ones, Look Around You and a fourth thing

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

this one has a lot of the cringe comedy of the office but it's not just cringe and a bit less meanspirited

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yeah, doesnt sound up my alley. It's weird cause I live in understated deadpan comedy irl but dont enjoy it when it's s scripted

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

the best bits have been clipped onto youtube and memed for ages, you're not missing much not seeing the whole thing tbh

[–] KuroXppi@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It's not comedy I enjoy either, it's from the era of discomfort cringe awkward laughter, like someone deliberately butchering a joke in polite company. It's all playing on the sensibilities of downwardly mobile british middle class and watching a clown car crash in slow motion. I can't watch The Extras, Peep Show makes my skin crawl (but I can appreciate why people like it, it's well made), the Office hurt to watch (gervais is a genuinely detestable human) Usa analogues are like Curb Your Enthusiasm, idk if yall in Canada have any home grown analogues. I'm glad that era of comedy is over.

Curb has a good balance I think where Larry is the major lightning rod and the other characters can be a contrast. Peep show both of the protags are unlikeable and the supporting cast are, as far as I can tell, just playing it straight. There's no release to the awkward tension

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Curb was improvised which probably helped. There's an outline for an episode and what needs to come up in the scene but the dialogue is otherwise improvised. So it was people genuinely reacting to Larry somewhat.
