Paid mods suck for everyone, but free mods (especially giant frameworks like the one Luke Ross was working on) suck mostly for the people who make them. Not just because of the unpaid labor, but also because the worst kind of people (entitled freeloaders) end up harassing them.
I don’t blame him for charging for his work, or choosing not to challenge CDPR in court

It's a normal thing in other kinds of software like video editing and audio software as well. Sometimes entire companies spring up to create custom plugins for things like After Effects or one of the many DAW softwares. Then they sell them and sometimes even license them out. Maybe it just hasn't caught on in gaming yet?
And I hope it never does. I don’t want more capitalism in my hobbies than there is already.
Although I would like to see the mod maker get some money for his work, he really should've just went the donation route. Not surprised it got striked.
should've just went
should've just gone
ok

I'm not a developer and not knowledgeable about how his tech works, but shouldn't it be possible to make a free mod that can interface with his proprietary VR software (which he then could license)?
Yeah the paywall is why they shutdown the dev.
Just like the Bully Online mod.
It's not the fact people are "breaking" the game, it's the fact people are charging for them to break it.
