Based on the Republicans I know, they will just hit "mute" and go in the kitchen for the halftime show. Their wives might watch parts of it and shake their heads before yelling "There's a whole thing of ranch dip in the fridge, and I can microwave some Velveeta if you want nachos."

[–] gmtom@lemmy.world 7 points 1 hour ago

You think they're going to pass up on an opportunity to bitch and whine and pearl clutch about something completely inconsequential???

Greek and Albanian traditional fustanella win.

I might hate his music but I fucking love his style

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago

Queer dude here who wears skirts in the summer time. Fully agree. Not a big fan of his music, not my style. But he can rock a fucking gown my god.

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 26 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

idk who this is, but he actually looks good in it. can we make this fashion normal again?

[–] Royal_Bitch_Pudding@lemmy.world 9 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

He was the caddy in Happy Gilmore 2

[–] blinfabian@feddit.nl 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Not missing much basically same plot but with more celebrity cameos.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 18 points 9 hours ago

Oh please let him kick the first ball 🙏

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 15 points 9 hours ago (3 children)

So football is woke now? I though it's just a way for rich people to monetize giving poor people brain injuries while promoting nationalism. Amazing what good PR can do.

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 2 points 42 minutes ago

I'd say more corporate woke than woke. A man in a dress is a cultural statement, sure, but it won't cause a rift in the market the way Palestinian activists getting their message through might. I think Bad Bunny is a force for good though, and the more google searches on his name the better off we are. It'd be nice if the Democrats could muster the courage to support marginalized folks, so in their absence it's at least nice that celebrities mostly do. At least the ones that haven't failed out of Hollywood and decided they're going to be grifters now.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

The halftime show has always been an opportunity for a major musical act to send whatever message they can fit in to a huge portion of America.

But yes, the game itself is destroying the bodies and minds of players and hopeful players (of whom the most committed tend to be poor and racialized). It's not nearly enough better than boxing. I don't really care for any sports, but baseball and basketball seem to be the least horrible (basketball has the ncaa issues though, and really needs a minor league instead). Soccer/football is also good except for heading the ball too much can result in inventing Posadism.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 2 points 3 hours ago

Strong disagree on football (soccer). Because of it's popularity and influence it gets away with being the most disgustingly corrupt sport there is. FIFA is organizing championships in stadiums build with slave labor. They gave a peace prize to a fascist just to make sure nothing will stop them from gauging ticket prices. Overall: 🤮

Then again, I also don't really care about sports :) Definitely not professional ones. It all gets ugly once money is involved.

CTE creates Right Wingers.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I've never watched super bowl at all let alone halftime show. Are there usually easily accessible recordings afterwards?

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah it'll be all over yt, along with the ads. The only things that's harder to find is the actual game footage (although that may be as easy as torrenting something, but I dunno bc I don't watch football so I've never gone looking)

[–] Dalimey@ttrpg.network 3 points 4 hours ago

If you are looking for a football game to watch by alternative methods, to the East there is a Stream that may have what you seek.

[–] please_send_me_nudes_girl 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I usually have an issue with attention seekers, but this would be hilarious to see.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

Why is a man wearing a dress automatically an attention seeker?

I wear skirts in the summer because they're more comfortable than shorts.

[–] HakunaHafada@lemmy.dbzer0.com 35 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I might actually watch the halftime show now just to watch people lose their shit.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 11 hours ago (1 children)
[–] dustyData@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Just remember that Green day is the Opening ceremony show. Bad bunny is the halftime show. A ton of people are confused about this detail.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

Oh! I was too. Thanks for clarifying.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 10 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (4 children)

Who ?

I’m getting downvoted, but I meant this seriously. I don’t know who this person is

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 11 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

He's a rapper/singer from Puerto Rico. I believe he's pretty popular among the youts.

[–] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I believe he's pretty popular among the youts

That hurt

[–] Dalimey@ttrpg.network 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

If you're US based, you've almost certainly heard Despacito, that's him.

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

You underestimate my ability to dodge current trends. I know who many Gen Z-A artists are because of crossword puzzles. Couldn't tell you what genre Megan Thee Stallion is, and I can't remember the name of that one who looks like a scary marionette wizard. I 43 :/

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Megan is shitty commercial rap. "Scary marionette" is pretty vague, but I'm gonna go with Billie Eilish. Also 43.

[–] Gladaed@feddit.org 1 points 7 hours ago

One of the most famous musicians of the time. Never heard of them until that ltt/jimmy fell on TV show.

[–] Karl@literature.cafe 3 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Idk. Someone badass it seems.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 105 points 16 hours ago

It doesn’t matter if I like Bad Bunny. Simply the idea that anyone of such stature in pop culture today can upset half a nation, doing something so harmless, brings me joy. This is not about you Red Hat Cult idiots.

[–] remon@ani.social 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

I thought it was Green Day this year?

[–] BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 5 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

They're opening for Bad Bunny.

[–] dustyData@lemmy.world 5 points 4 hours ago

They are opening the Superbowl, not for Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny is the half-time show. We might get to hear a rad version of the star-spangled banner.

[–] remon@ani.social 1 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Damn, that feels like it's the wrong way around.

[–] dil@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Idk any non latinos that casually listen to bad bunny, maybe its their political statement of the year

[–] remon@ani.social 1 points 5 hours ago

I've never even heard of him before the superbowl thing. Meanwhile Green Day ways international famous since I was kid and is one of the biggest classics in main-stream punk. That they are opening for him just seems crazy.

[–] X@piefed.world 19 points 13 hours ago

Based af bad bunny make them bitches wretch and shriek

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 147 points 19 hours ago

Good Bunny.

Crashing out is a term for someone losing their minds, typically over some inconsequential shit.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Is it inconsequential? Or is it just just catalystic? Like is a crash out seen as valid by default or no

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 1 points 58 minutes ago

It has a generally negative connotation, like someone who is filmed throwing a tantrum in public, or who posts a bunch of absolutely furious tweets in response to getting called out. Usually it's considered an embarrassing and excessive reaction (possibly career-ending, or reputation besmirching). But sometimes you'll see someone post a video/screenshot of a crash out with the title: "that was the most justified crash out ever," implying that yes, their reaction was extreme, but for a good reason.
